I woke up to get a drink around 3:30 in the morning. A few seconds after returning to my bed the whole trailer shook like crazy and there was a loud thud. I thought it was a bear so instinctively I jumped up to Shaley’s bed to be away from the back door and tried to force her to sleep in my bed - after all she was the one telling Shawn a bear was going to come and get him during the night. Dad woke up too, except he thought it was a creep trying to get into the trailer. Noticing the trailer was rocking from my jumping about he got up, and after finding out everything was alright he went outside only to find out that everything happened because it had rained so hard ... read more

I woke up in the morning to find Mom had a hangover from 2 drinks. We visited with Connie a little while longer and eventually got to see her do some tricks with her horses. It was awesome, she could make them bow, salute, find their bellies, smile and - of course- show us a little Elvis. After eating a great chili and corn lunch, and taking a bunch of family pictures, we set off with Connie’s daughter Chantal towards Toronto. We parted ways at highway 401 and headed off towards our campsite, where we got to pretty late at night.... read more

We woke up at 7 in the morning to get ready for a day at Canada’s Wonderland. When we got there we saw a stunning array of roller coasters in every style, make and color possible. Dad, Shae and I went on two right away - the wooden Mine buster, and the biggest coaster in Canada the Behemoth with a 291 foot 85 degree drop. Then we got a large fries and went to meet Dad’s friend Fab. Shae and I went to hang out with Fab’s kids Nick and Megan. We went on a bunch of rollercoasters, rides and got some food. They left early so Dad, Shae, Mom, Shawn and I went on a few more rides - including a stand-up roller-coaster with loop-de-loops - and finished off with dinner from a drive-in. We ... read more

The next morning we woke up and walked around the campsite we stayed at the night before. We dipped our feet in the warm, crystal clear water and continued our walk. After a while we got back to our trailer and hit the road again. We drove until Sudbury, Ontario where Todd Bertuzzi is from where we stopped to fuel up. Dad talked to the gas guy and found out that Todd drove a corvette with custom Bertuzzi plates and usually filled up at that very station ! We continued down the road towards Mom’s friend Connie’s house. Along the way we stopped in Barrie to fill up. Now here’s the interesting part, we drove in a circle and then somehow the truck stopped working. It was as Dad said as if the brakes were locked ... read more

After our few days in Thunder Bay we woke up to leave Happy Land. We got the trailer all ready to go, Mom made breakfast and Penny stopped over to say goodbye to us all. After a short visit we took off to Superstore for a quick reload of food and took off to the Terry Fox lookout. When we got there we were stunned by how beautiful it was. A huge 9 foot tall bronze statue of Terry Fox was mounted on a marble base with 3 paragraphs on this amazing person on every side. A map of Canada was drawn underneath and right behind the shrine was an amazing view of Lake Superior. We stayed for about half an hour then took off on the road again. Our next stop was at a small ... read more

One week into our trip we decided to go into town and get a few things because Mom was going to be cooking a dinner for Dad’s Uncle Harold and Harold’s wife Arlene. We all piled into the truck and drove the whole 5 minutes into town. Mom went into the grocery store and Dad, Shae, Shawn and myself walked over to a nearby ice cream shack. They had millions and millions of different ice creams ... pretty unusual ones too. Dad got a kiwi yogurt, Shawn a strawberry shake, Shaley got a toasted coconut dip, and I got a butterscotch dip. We also got a order of onion rings that were pretty tasty as well. We sat and ate our treats as a group of about 16 motor-cyclists pulled up to get some for themselves. ... read more

A travel adventure has no substitute. It is the ultimate experience, your one big opportunity for flair. As we were about to leave our campsite this morning a car drove up honking its horn over and over again like crazy. It turned out to be mom's good friend Penny (Sylvia's sister) coming over for a visit. She decided to drive out from Thunder Bay just to visit us because she couldn't find us when she came at 11:00 P.M. last night. We had a drink with her and shared some stories before she had to go back to town for work. Then we decided to go into Thunder Bay ourselves. Dad called his Uncle Harold and set up a dinner date for tomorrow night with him and Grandma's sister, Dad's auntie, Stella (Mary was going to ... read more

We woke up at around noon and Shaley almost got hit by a truck zooming by the trailer. Then we set off on the road towards Thunder Bay . We drove for a while but we stopped quite a few times. This was one of the days we saw some wildlife. Mom spotted a young bull moose, and I spotted a brown bear, but we couldn’t tell if it was a grizzly. We finally reached Kakabeca Falls, and pulled off at the Happy Land (yay!) campground where we will be parking the trailer for the next couple of days. After setting up, we got to do some laundry explore the campground and finally set off to the heated pool and hot tub. The whole family spent three hours there. We had a game of handball/waterpolo where ... read more

After leaving Russell, we traveled even farther east. We drove and drove and drove until we reached the gorgeous city of Winnipeg. We decided to drive through the city, rather than taking the boring by-pass that was littered with semis and other large vehicles. The first major place we passed was the Assiniboine Down racetrack, where Dad’s brother Alvin used to race his horses. We continued down the city’s streets cruising deeper into Winnipeg’s downtown region. We passed the Fort Garry Hotel, a marvelous high-class hotel that has been operating for over 100 years, then we passed the Manitoba legislature covered in its many sculptures including 2 giant sphinxes on the roof. As we were leaving the city we drove over the full Red River and continued on Highway 1 until we noticed the Royal Canadian Mint ... read more

After a morning of running errands and last minute packing we finally left the house and Edmonton, Alberta at 4:06 PM, what Dad refers to as an “early start” on Saturday, July 23,2011. We set off onto our journey across Canada in Dad’s Chevy truck pulling the family trailer. Cruising down the Yellowhead Eastbound we passed Innisfree, Alberta, the successful sister town of Innisfail, Alberta. Usually on road trips one would see animals such as cows, horses, moose, deer and elk however on at the very beginning of our trip we saw a coyote, buffalo, roosters, llamas and sheepdogs that look like goats. With Shaley and Shawn both passed out we continued on to Lloyminster. We decided to stop at a buffet called “Touch of Asia” for a dinner featuring Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese and some Canadian food. ... read more
