Hello again! Today, Friday, we headed into the Sonoma and Nappa valleys to visit some wineries and learn the history of the region. In Sonoma, we split up: mom and dad went one way, and Mike and I, another. It was interesting to hear what we had all visited when we met up for lunch at the Sunflower Cafe (www.sonomasunflower.com). Guy Fieri does not disappoint! Mike and I are big fans of his show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and were happy to try out this café/diner today for lunch. The food was delicious, as my parents kept saying. After lunch, mom, dad and I headed out for a wine tasing at a local winery boutique (www.roesslercellars.com), while Mike drove around looking for a parking spot. He is a sweetie! He waited for us as we tasted ... read more

Hello! On Thursday, we drove from Monterey to the San Francisco region. I guess I did not take many pictures! We spent some time on Cannery Row in Monterey, which sort of reminded us of a mix between Québec city and Halifax, because it was right on the water and had lots of quaint little shops. So we walked around for a while, visited some shops - some tacky beach shops, some galleries - and had lunch. The seafood pizza was good, as well as the fried artichoke we had as an appetizer. Artichoke is on every menu, as is avocado, probably since they are in season right now. After lunch, we left for San Francisco, and made a pit stop in Santa Cruz to take a walk on the boardwalk. I bought some flipflops. I ... read more

Good morning! We are currently in Monterey, California. The drive yesterday was absolutely breathtaking. We were on the Pacific Coast Highway for most of the time. According to Mike, National Geographic has rated the PCH one of the best drives in the world. He says it is the most beautiful he has ever done. I'm afraid my pictures don't do it justice, as I was sitting on the passenger side, which was in this case the mountain side. Mike got the view of the ocean the whole way, but the road was a "little" windy, so I was not going to ask him to take pictures while he drove! We stopped at a few fruit stands along the way and bought fresh California strawberries and oranges, which we are eating right now for breafast. I also ... read more

Hello, everyone! We've fallen a bit behind on the blogging, as we are trying to get out of our hotel a little earlier in the morning. Today, I have posted pictures from our last day in Vegas, which was Monday. People told us that even if you weren't into the "glam" of it all, Vegas was worth a visit. I now understand what they meant. You do have to see it to believe it. Personally, I saw it as one huge shopping mall, a playground of sorts for adults. Mike quite enjoyed people watching. And there were a lot of people to watch! I never would have thought it would be so busy! Roadtrip Trivia of the day : How much do you think we paid for our sundae at Serendipity 3? Until next time, Cheers! ... read more

Happy Easter, everyone! Just a quick note to let everyone know that the wedding was wonderful. We are having a good time, and are trying to relax in the city that never sleeps. It really is crazy out here! The answer to our last Roadtrip Trivia is : $1.50 each taco. Not bad for a healthy snack! Tomorrow morning, we will be leaving with my parents on a one-week roadtrip around California. I thought our first stop was L.A., but Mike just informed me that it is Death Valley. Ha! Looks like I have some reading up to do! Until then, Cheers! Oh, and a second birthday shout out: Bonne fête, ma belle Sonya! J'espère que tu passes une merveilleuse journée et que tu te sens gâtée bien comme il faut! Je t'aime! :)... read more

Good morning! Here is the answer to yesterday's Roadtrip Trivia: jalapeno cheddar cheese curds. And they were yummy! Yesterday, we had the privilege of seeing more beautiful scenery changes as we drove through New Mexico and Arizona. And today, we are Vegas Bound for my sister Josée's wedding. Mike has a can of quarters that he has been saving all trip. But he just informed me that they are not for the casino. He plans on playing with bills. Oh! Oh! After we left Santa Rosa, we decided to stop for lunch in Santa Fe. Mike says he hates Santa Fe. It was a little snooty for his liking. And he chose to order tuna salad sandwich at a restaurant that offered much more interesting fare. Too bad for him! The houses in Santa Fe are ... read more

Good morning! We didn't get any guesses on yesterday's Roadtrip Trivia, so here is the answer: frozen pickle juice! People snack on it like a sno cone. Today's Roadtrip Trivia: Check out our pictures. There's one there for ya! Yesterday, we did parts of route 66 and stopped in Tucumcari for supper. It was really neat to see all the old signs. We also had our best steak ever at the Big Texan Steakhouse, in Amarillo. Yum! Today, we will be driving from Santa Rosa, New Mexico, to Flagstaff, Arizona, with a stop in Santa Fe. We are amazed at how the scenery is changing fast. Long gone are the lush trees of Tennessee. Now, we are in the high planes, there is brush as far as the eye can see in some areas, and mesas, ... read more

Note to self: Save text often, otherwise you may lose the blog entry you have been working on for half an hour! Good morning, y'all! We have some winners from yesterday's Roadtrip Trivia! The green stuff was collard greens. No one has guessed the fried stuff, though. Nice try with fried okra! But it was chicken livers. I did eat one. And that was enough. The collard greens we had at KFC were okay, but nothing compared to what we had yesterday (Tuesday) at Leo's BBQ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Check it out online. This place was featured on the television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It was definitely a dive, definitely authentic, and definitely delicious! Our "small" sampler plate (which we shared, all for $20.00!) had smoked balogna, smoked links (sausage), smoked ribs and smoked ... read more

On Monday, we drove from Morehead, Kentucky, to Little Rock, Arkansas, by means of Nashville and Memphis. It was a loooong day! We had planned to drive straight through, but we got caught on the Bourbon Trail. Not long after leaving Morehead, we saw a sign for the Wild Turkey Bourbon Distillery. I'd never had Bourbon. So, why not? I mean, 131 proof Bourbon is a good way to start the day, isn't it? Phew! Well, that added about one and a half hours to a ten plus hour driving day. But I did buy something to bring back home, so it was all worth it! It was time for lunch as we were getting ready to leave Kentucky, and we decided to give into our urge, and have... Kentucky Fried Chicken. Now, you have to ... read more
