Hi everyone! Well, since my last entry we have arrived safely in Bangkok, Thailand. We arrived late last night, and spent a few hours wandering around the city streets before crashing for the night in the Wild Orchid Guesthouse. Our accomodations are clean and humble, but located perfectly, as the guesthouse is only a few minutes walk from Ko San Road, the backpackers haven. Today Mark and I visited the the Wat Pho Temple to see the Reclining Buddha, an amazing golden buddha statue over 40 feet high, and probably three times that in length. It was breathtaking. The rest of the day has consisted of checking out Ko San Road, and relaxing in the guesthouse open-air lounge during an impressive rain storm. The heat and humidity here make it hard to survive for a full ... read more

A welcome rush of cold air hits me as I walk through the familiar doors of 7-11. I grab a slurpee, finger up the magazines, and debate the purchase of a Big Bite Combo. The sounds of fast motor bikes drag racing up and down the streets outside conjure up memories of home. My cashier has a mullet. Bangkok is clearly North of Dewdney. Singapore is the south end; appearance is very important, the streets are paved with gold, and there is more fast japanese cars, cinemas and nice hotels than one could ever want or desire. Bangkok feels like home; women have bangs, men have mullets, and 40's of strong beer are cheap and plentiful. I will make a bold prediction that by 2010 a Burger Baron will open on the corner of Khao San ... read more

Ko Pha Ngan We arrived on the crazy island of Ko Pha Ngan 4 days before the full moon party as difficult to get accommodation… with over 20,000 people expected to turn up for the party and accommodation for only 3,000 its best to get there early! We didn’t want to be one of late comers who don’t sleep, sleep on the beach or stay on the neighbouring islands! We mainly chilled around the swimming pool or beaches in the day watching the steady flow of westerners filling up and taking over the island. In fact if it wasn’t for the usual fantastic beaches you wouldn’t think you were in Thailand because of all the western faces, made up mainly of Brits, Irish, Swedes, German and a whole bunch of Ozzies! It was all good and ... read more

At the full-moon of each month, about 7-10k people descend Hat Rin beach for one of the biggest beach parties in the world. The clubs on the beaches pump out the beats (Techo, Trance, House, R&B, etc) and people (mostly young forieginers but a sizable number of locals as well) dance (or drink) the night away on the beach. There were fire twilers, break dancers, rappers, a carnival atmosphere and lots of cheap booze which pretty much guranteed a great party. The boat ride (in a speed boat was about 45 min from KoSamui) and we got there around 8pm. I was "napping" by 2am but woke up 3:30am to rejoin the party, after a quick snack of street food. We left back to Ko Samui at dawn around 6am. All in all a memorable night ... read more

Railay is a little peninsula on the Andaman Coast that is really popular with rock climbers. Once we arrived, it wasn’t hard to see why. The rock formations on the island are just CRAZY. Thousands of jagged stalactites hanging from the caves, right down onto the beach. Unlike anything we had see before. The peninsula is small enough that you can walk from one end to the other. Divided into the East and West side, the West side (Hat Rai Leh West) has nicer accommodation and a better beach - although there were so many jelly fish washed up on the beach and the tides so low, that most people seemed to swim in the resort pools. They were much more refreshing. The East side runs to mangroves and is horribly filthy in most parts. Rubbish ... read more

Days 182-185 Arrived in Chiang Mai about 5 am and found our way to a nice little guesthouse via Tuk tuk. We had a little snooze then checked out the city. It was a gorgeous hot day (if we'd known it would be our last we would have made the most of it) and a really cool city. Much more chilled than Bangkok. We had some breakfast and booked an unplanned 2 day trekking trip for the next day. Had a swim in the pool at the guesthouse then walked down to the night market. It was huge - neverending in fact, with loads of bits and bobs for sale. We didn't spend that long there as it was the FA Cup final and Carly sliced open her toe on the shoddy pavement. We had a ... read more

So after hours of debate and a look at our financial posistion we decided to return to Koh Tao, and this turned out to be a fantastic decision, which i take full credit for!! We started to look into ferries to Koh Tao and found out that we could actually travel to Tao on a speed boat for the same price.....1 1/2 hours on a speed boat! We were expecting a St Tropez style experience, but a Disneyland ride without the safety features was what we were presented with! On the plus side the Nic gained a facelift resulting from the high speed wind, and we both got used to the feelling of whiplash...eventually! All worth it to be back in Koh Tao. When we arrived we got a fantastic room at a fantasitc price of ... read more

Hey dudes! After a rough flight from Seattle to Incheon (South Korea), followed by a 24 hour layover, we've finally made it to Bangkok! It's always a bit of a shock to the senses to arrive in Bkk, but admittedly, it's much better than spending 3+ days stuck in airplanes and airports. I'm actually pretty fond of Bangkok.. it's busy and stinky at the best of times, but there's so much to do in this city that you're never bored. It's just a cool place to explore. The 24 hr layover in Incheon went surprisingly well, considering that Asiana Airlines put us up in a comparatively fancy hotel for the night.. complete with a tv, free internet and a jaccuzi. Sweet deal. Having arrived in Incheon at 5:30pm after a 12 hour flight, we booked into ... read more

I just don't know where to start, so I will let you all know that I have been infamous for throwing out random thoughts on our trip, I just blirt them out as if I am having a full converstions in my head. Don looks at me and says, "ok", I respond with "Jenny's random thought # 164". So, if I write anything like the way that I have been thinking over the last couple of weeks, I am appoligizing now for the lack of fluididty that this blog may contain due to the fact that we haven't written in quite some time... with that said, here goes. We made it thought Nepal without a hitch. Our trek was fantastic!!! We were scheduled to finish our trek on May 11 and fly to Thailand on May ... read more

Things are getting better here. I do have one problem though... everytime I go to Thailand I loose one of my bras in the first couple of days that I get here! Don't get me wrong, I don't loose them in some kind of crazy "girls gone wild" kind of way... they just disappear! And this time I only brought two bras with me to Thailand, so now I'm down to one. Here's a little recap of the situation: Day 1: I sent some dirty clothes (including some ginches and my bra) to the laundry shop. No big deal, right? When I was here last time they laundried everything! Day 2: I get my clothes back, minus underwear and bra. Ooookay, maybe I misplaced it. Day 3: I put my laundry in a basket to be ... read more
