Why do I travel? I've come to realize that we truly don't all travel for the same reasons. Pai attracts hippie backpackers looking to get off the grid and away from rules. Phuket and Bangkok are the go to places for partying and sex tourism. Chiang Mai is hot for wellness and feeling like you're on vacation. All generalizations of course. On a broader scale, some long term travelers have said they were sick of their jobs and quit to travel. Others are taking a break in education. I'm not sure of all the reasons, but I'm curious about mine because it doesn't seem clear. I'm not sure if I'm running, searching, etc. I like to meet people and be on the go, whereas people like Kristen like to take it slow and be in livable ... read more

There is nothing much to tell about Khanom or show what I have not told or shown on my recent trip to Khanom. On the first day (monday) I assembled my bike and was really happy that it worked well. I visited my Khanom friends and they were all really happy to see me. I was invited for lunch and dinner and really happy to be here. It was a really happy day. :D Today I also bought a table and finally established my office. What was a nightmare though, is what happened to my bicycle. I had a flat tire the very first day (I had only 2 in 3 months last time). I repaired that and had another flat tire only 2 days later. I repaired that too and started to work on my ... read more

(scroll down for all images) Hi everybody. It took me a while but as usual I need time to get everything settled until I have some minutes to share whatever happened. And it takes some more time until something happens at all :-) So here is my trip to where I am now. Saturday: Benno was so kind to give me ride to the airport because the S-Bahn was on strike and it would have been unpredictable to take it. I went straight to the check-in of Emirates where I saw people unpacking things out of their suitcases because they were too heavy. I got a little bit afraid about the 3kg excess luggage I had but I was lucky because the bike case did not fit onto his scale entirely and so it weighed about ... read more

Tina, what you like? Tina, you like seafood? Tina, you like hot spring? Tina, you like waterfall? Lavished and pompous likened to that of a royalty describe my experience with my host family in Thailand. From the Don Mueang Airport, I headed directly to the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok where I needed to catch the overnight bus to the town of Ranong. As a first time lone traveller, I used my charm to ask people around on how to get from one place to another. When I got off from the city bus, a woman who just got off from the same bus waited for me and asked me in a friendliest manner , “Ranong?”. When I said yes, she held my hand as if we knew each other for a long time. She pointed ... read more

The tranquility of url=http://www.travelfish.org/location/thailand/southern_thailand/nakhon_si_thammarat/nakhon_si_thammaratNakhon Si Thammarat hits you the moment you step off the plane and onto the runway. The mighty peak of Khao Luang (namesake of the national park) looms in the distance overlooking all and sundry in a kind of serene benevolence from a height of over 1,800 meters. Birds large and small chatter in the bushes on the side of the runway, and they are the only sound one hears aside from fellow passengers talking on their phones. Speaking of those passengers, I counted just two other farang on the flight down. My plan was to hop in a taxi and go straight to the village of Ban Khiriwong in the foothills of Khao Luang National Park . In hindsight it would have been more fun to take a songthaew for 25 ... read more

I visited Thailand once. It seems like such a long time ago when life was more simple less difficult, i was only 8 yet I remember everything, where we stayed ,the smell of the trees , the nature , how I was utterly terrified of the ocean , the food and of course the amazing service and the nice people. Our journey began in the city of Phuket , Phuket is Thailand's largest island and in my opinion one of the most beautiful. The first day we arrived i was so amused by the nature i couldn't stop staring like a child looking at life for the first time , the movement of the waves the way it collaborates with the pouring rain. it rained most of the trip thats because its winter time in thailand ... read more

Landed in bangkok and jumped straight onto a 5 hour bus to kho chang. It was a really long bus ride but there was only 4 of us in the mini van so we could spread out. We arrived on the island quite late and tree to book into another tree house but unfortunately it is no longer open. We stayed at the lonely beach in our own little beach hut, it was a bit of a backpacker trap and we spent a couple of nights drinking vodka buckets and cheap beer. There was a lot to see on the island but we strated at the floating market, passing lots of monkeys and elephants. Nick eventually found the same restaurant that he and Allen went to (where you dangle your legs in the water). Then we ... read more

Today all we pretty much did was travel. We had to wake up early in the morning to get breakfast. Then we had to catch a taxi to a pier were we would catch a big fairy from. We caught the fairy to Don Sak. Next we got on a bus to Surat Thani. From Surat Thani we caught a taxi to Surat Thani airport. We then caught a plane to Bangkok. When we arrived at Bangkok we had to get another taxi to our hotel Ibis. Tomorrow we will be heading off to Siem Reap, Cambodia. That is a lot of travelling and it makes you very tired! This is a very boring blog post and a very short one too so I’m sorry for that but it is the best I can do. Photos ... read more

Friday- Yesterday we went on a fishing tour. We woke up early in the morning to catch a mini bus to the big budda pier. Next we hopped on the boat and headed out to sea. We started to fish and our guide caught the first fish. Then a lot of other people started to catch fish and one person even caught a 5 kilo fish!! Then we moved to a new fishing spot and I caught my first small fish. Lots of other people also caught a few fish. We then moved to another fishing spot and I caught another beautiful big fish. We also had lunch there. Our lunch was the 5 kilo fish a man caught. I did not try the fish though because I hate fish. We went to another spot to ... read more
