Everyone told me it is not safe to travel down that area in southern Thailand, yeah....I did a quick search on line and nothing but bomb explosion on the news in the past for Yala region, although not any recently incident, it still chopped down a worrying mark on my mind, so when I took the train to Yala after a short stay in Hat Yai, and I was riding with couple of military in the same compartment, suddenly I remembered those news I'd read..."the extremist mostly targeted the army and military". ou..oh...just when I was mumbling why they had to sit in my compartment but not the others, then I saw the approaching train from the opposite direction... there were military stationed in every compartment!!!! glad I didn't made a fool of myself by carry ... read more

The cheapest way travel south from Nakon Si Thammatrat is by train...the third class! and it was far better than I'd expected...airy and spacious! The rail ran through vast green flat land mostly with gum tree, only until near Phatthalung area you will see huge rock spouted from the earth, the one right next to the train station is Khao Ok Talu, stairs lead up to the 250m summit where you can get a great view of the area. Another path will get you to a convent like temple resided only nun with nice garden area and many interesting statues. Wat Tham Khuha Sawan was built in the Ayutthaya period which the temple is located at the foot of Khao Khuha Sawan near the busy Phatthalung market, a cave temple with a huge sleeping buddha and ... read more

Nakhon Si Thammarat has a long history, its Kingdom was one of the major constituent city states of the Siamese kingdoms of Sukhothai and later Ayutthaya and controlled a big part of the Malay peninsula. Most historians identify the Tambralinga kingdom of Chinese records with a precursor of Nakhon Si Thammarat. CoMassage & men We decided as the weather was rubbish and the sun burn was still rearing its ugly head that we would get an aloe Vera massage in Koh Tao! Aimee joined us and luckily we found a place that could accommodate the 3 of us. I was happy that Aimee drew the short straw and the lady boy selected her, although you should see Aimee she's 5ft nothing and tiny, I knew at this point that this would be a fun day! They remove our bikini tops and start on our backs! At first it was extremely relaxing, but we had no idea what was to follow..... Bec, unfortunately never had her bikini top on for the remainder of the massage and had a full frontal massage?Further into the hour session the massage took ... read more

Since I'm working Thanksgiving and missing my high school reunion, I needed something to look forward to... that's when my friend Becca and I decided to go to Thailand for 10 days. To Thailand... Travel wise, we're flight attendants and didn't have to worry about the cost of the our flights. We were worried about seats being available because November is the start of Thailand's busy season, but we ended up not having any issues with our seats. We left from Atlanta, Georgia, and it was a 12 hour flight to Narita, Japan. We then took a 6 hour flight from Narita to Bangkok. Instead of staying in Bangkok, we slept in the airport and then the ... read more

After 3 days in Pai, it was back off to Soi dog I went. Gary had pals coming to bangkok he was going to meet in a few days time, and again i didnt want to spend that much time in the city, and after pondering other local shelters, remembering my bad experience at Samui dog, I decided to go back to where i started, as i knew i would be welcome and would enjoy myself. I flew from chiang mai to phuket on sunday and started on the monday. It was so nice to be back, and honestly felt like i had never left! Saying that, a lot of the dogs in my run had been adopted and left, which was amazing, and 2 new additions had arrived, one of which was in the picture ... read more

I cant beleive how long it has been since I last posted, I guess time flies when you are having fun. I also generally struggle with finding internet cafes that have the appropriate USB capacities to upload pics. After Manila and how I felt about it, arriving in Bangkok was a pleasant surprise. I had pictured much of the same - hectic, smokey, crazy, poor. some of that applied, but not really. First impressions in the taxi from the airport were how developed and rich it was, full of skyscrapers and garages for posh cars. We stayed at the notorious Kao san road (known for partying and being able to eat scorpions and the like) but a couple of streets down.At first it was a lot of fun, so many cheap markets selling nice clothes and ... read more

Well here I am, two months later, finally somewhat acclimated to Thailand. Pre-departure, I was kindly warned that you're basically thrown into the lions den immediately upon arrival. While several refer to the "lion's den" to be a slighted negative connotation, it's more so my own personal encryption of capacities. In this case, my capacities were how quickly could I adapt to a brand new foreign culture? Considering i'm 100% linguistically and phonetically challenged in the Thai department, how do I communicate? After 30 hours of travel, can I really sit through a week of orientation fresh off the plane? And then there's that point, the key point, the all mighty premise of why I came to Thailand in the first place..... to teach. Not only are you fresh off the flight, thrown into a week ... read more

Leaving the city of Bangkok by bicycle is not for the fainthearted unless you cycle with Paul Mueller (mad_mueller@yahoo.com), a local and enthusiastic cyclist who has resided in the city for the past 8 years and who knows every square inch of this metropolis by the back of his hand. Only two weeks before my departure another round the world cyclist had been killed on the outskirts of Bangkok with 140000 KM and 4 years of cycling under his belt. He had been cycling with his wife (whom he met on his adventure) and 2 year old child and was even cycling with a huge trailer behind him when he was knocked off his bike and died at the scene. A repeat episode of what had happened in the 2 previous years when a British cycling ... read more
