We’ve now moved to Railay, a peninsular on the mainland that’s completely cut off by tall limestone Karsts meaning the only access is by boat. The tall limestone karsts make it a haven for rock climbers but we’re not here for that, it’s the spectacular scenery we’ve come for. There are also two beautiful beaches. We chose a bungalow resort built high up amongst the karsts. The bungalows were set in a tropical garden each with a huge veranda. We were ready to put down roots for a while and this seemed the perfect place to do so. It’s very serene up here, the only noises we hear as we wake up each day are the cockerels crowing, the monkeys hooting and the geckos making their kind of clicking noise. One morning as I sat on ... read more

First night at anchor what a fantastic feeling!! So been waiting for it and finally - off we go on our mission to find a place for my birthday - my whole family confirmed they will come, amazing, how lucky am I , so i had better find a great place! First stop Koh Yai Yah, an island 10 km off phuket - we anchored in the middle on the west side, 3 resorts just in front of us. Maybe that will do?? In the morning we went on shore to check them out! They all got their own budget , from 3 star to 6??? The only problem, there is nothing else, its to far to go and explore unless you have a car , safe anchorage for april, but don't think it will do. ... read more

"What's your name" "Taylor" "AHHHH LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT" Exactly like Taylor Swift I have been writing a comparative essay between the Cuban and Iranian revolutions for class, and I realized I should do the same for my life here in Thailand. This comparitive essay will prove to you how my current life is exactly the same as that of a famous celebrity...for example Taylor Swift. 1. I have a house in a big city, yet I spend most of my time in random cities throughout the country bouncing from one hotel to another. How many times do you hear celebraties making this claim. They are rarely at their multi million dollar homes because they are off bouncing from one location to the next. Well so am I! Maybe my roost isn't a mansion in the hills ... read more

We splashed out on a aircon bunglaow with a pool which we got straight in with our new Apache pilot friend and a sweet couple from South Africa. When the Mosi's got too much we went out for dinner to another 'Mum's Restaurant' (a popular choice in name) followed by a couple of drink in Skunk bar with an Australian couple who got us excited about the next leg of our journey. The next day we decided to walk to the view point. It was not a walk! It was a steep muddy scramble up the side of a cliff. It was nice though and despite warnings that the path to the lagoon was pretty rugged we went for it anyway. It was a bloody risky, slippery, muddy slip and slide to a not very impressive ... read more

After 4 stressful weeks of: - lack of sleep - travelling long, uncomfortable journeys - whizz stop tours of places - early morning alarms to get up and go We decided island hopping in Thailand was a perfect way to end our stay in south east Asia... We imagined: * having time to spare to enjoy experiencing each island * lie ins * minimal travelling * chilling out *. basking in the sun... Finally topping up the tan! In reality... We continued Tom's whizz stop tour of hospitals, and our planned island hopping trip fell by the wayside. After the patient was fit and healthy we ended up ... * making not one but two rocky boat tr... read more

So yesterday I told you we were heading to the view point and lagoon.. and we did! :D We had been warned that it is advisable to wear hiking shoes but Sean decided to ignore this advice and so I followed suit... as we couldnt face walking around in the boiling heat with our massive shoes on. We got to the edge of the trail up to the view point and I instantly realised this was a big mistake! It was basically an extremely steep slope covered in tree roots and jagged rock with two ropes to help you up! I said we should turn back and just get our shoes but Sean insisted it would be fine and we could do it in flip flops. The climb to the viewpoint took about 5 minutes and ... read more

So the day after we were ill we had a nice relaxing day on the beach and then had a few drinks that evening while watching the most beautiful sunset we have both ever seen! The whole sky was a firey red reflecting of the sea, it looked so amazing. I tried to get some pictures but they just really dont do it justice. The following morning, we checked out of the 'seabeer hostel' and lugged our bags down to the sea front to catch a long boat to Railay beach. That Is the beach on the opposite side of Tonsai where we were before Ao Nang. We had to wait for 8 people to get the boat before we could leave but they ended up waiting for 20 and piled 10 in two boats when ... read more

Krabi - Railay Beach There is a lot of island to choose from around this part of Thailand which have been made famous as an ideal location for adventurers, yachtsmen, scuba-divers, snorkelers and day-trippers. The West coast of Thailand is truely stunning (the film 'The Beach' was shot at Ko Phi Phi) A beautiful place but now it is rapidly becoming a party Island.. We opted to stay in East-Railay for 10 days bathing and relaxing before heading back to cold UK. (Railay is not really an Island but it is not reachable by road, therefore it is effectively an Island without being an Island because everything arrives by boat....) In January be ready to see prices rise as it is high season, so even a little bungalow can be expensive. Anyhow, we stayed near in ... read more

So today was a designated beach day at one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand - Railay. However we awoke to rain again :( We decided still to go see the beach, and glad we did, as the sun came out around 12pm and despite a mad rush for the sun cream both of us got burnt. Railay is famous for its rock climbing on the limestone cliffs, and we watched some dare devils walk along a tight rope at the top. The beach was busy with tourists, but the long tail boat from Ao Nang was enjoyable as we got to see the limestone cliffs up-close. We also did the short walk across to Railay East beach - but there wasn't much to see except a few dirty cafe's and a very messy shoreline, ... read more

This is kind of where I left off. Early last year. Here it is.. Rob and I started the year with a trip to Railay and Phuket, Thailand, which was beautiful and romantic. It’s always nice to get away and lap in the life of luxury for cheap in Thailand.. One of my favourite benefits to living in Hong Kong… AsianVacations! Railay, is a gorgeous island in Southern Thailand, that’s special for its stunning limestone cliffs and scenic emerald beaches. It’s different from other Thai islands in that it’s quiet, very laid back and full of climbing enthusiasts. Climbers from all over the world come here to climb amidst a postcard backdrop. The limestone cliffs are from another mystical magical world... It feels like that anyways, especially since it took us one ferry, one plane, one ... read more
