Sorry it has been so long since I have written anything. We were just chilling in Thailand and then things have been a bit manic since we got to Oz. Thank you for the emails. It's nice I hear from everyone so keep them coming because we both look forward to hearing from you all. So where were we... After our elephant trip and jungle trek the wonderful Francisco set us up for a lake tour. Now last time I went on a boat was Bulgaria about 4 years ago and it is definitely on my list of experiences I would never like to repeat again. Couple that with the fact that Andy gets motion sickness on the bus into town, we were taking a bit of a risk going for a whole day. Our guide, ... read more

We arrived at Khao Sok to peace and quiet and fresh air... ahhh bliss!! We dragged our over stuffed bags down the road and eventually found our hotel. We are staying at Las Orquideas Resort in our own little bungalow complete with porch. It is great to sit outside with only the sounds of the insects to keep us company. There is some amazing noises coming from the surrounding area. There was this incredible screeching like a really loud, high pitched horn. We asked the owner about it and apparenlty it is an insect called a Cicada. The hotel owner is a very nice Spanish gentleman who has been very helpful and told us where to eat and where to avoid etc. After a much needed nap we had a wander round the village which leads ... read more

After quite a good sleep on the not so comfortable looking nightboat (well, the toilet was awful) we arrive in Suratthani. Then: wait, taxi to other waiting place, wait, taxi to travel agency where we supposed to book accomodation for Khao Sok(which we didnt), wait and then finally minibus to Khao Sok National Park - one of the oldest, evergreen rainforests in the world. As we arrive we get a big hello: Oh, come and look my bungalow, very cheap and close to river. Around 4 Thai hotel owners (or agents working for the hotel owners) are all over us. Its low season here at the moment and the start of the wet season. So of course everyone is fighting for tourists... We decide to have a can of ice coffee first and then go and ... read more

Note: No pictures because Thailand computer part doesnt work...will try to fix it! Thats enough of the beach life...Ko Lanta has been kind so we have decided to rough it again and get back to nature. Ash has told us about Khao Sok national park which is only a few hours drive away. The rainforest contained therin is supposedly similair to the way it was 160 million years ago. Yes folks, thats when the dinosaurs were knocking around. While there are unfortunatly no dinosaurs there at present, there are plenty of other creatures that are capable of eating you like Bears and Tigers. Deciding the break things up a bit, we jumped on an air conditioned van to Krabi, where we would lay up for the night and purchase essentials, which entailed walking shoes and ... read more

We decided to go to this national park for a change of scenery and spend a few days away from the beach. We arrived 2 days after the Full Moon Party (I was still Slightly hungover!!) on the 21st February. After the full moon party there is a mass of travellers leaving Koh Phagnan so the ferries off the island are very busy. The journey to Khao Sok involved a ferry then a minibus. Once we arrived we found some accommodation at Banana Hut Resort. On our first day in Khao Sok we went on a tour around Cheow Larn Lake. This is a massive man-made lake. The scenery was amazing. We went on a longboat around the lake then we were able to swim in the water. Being in freshwater felt really refreshing, we stayed ... read more

Hope you all enjoyed reading the last blog. Apologies for the mix up on the photos and the descriptions, they were all fine until the blog was published. I think a similar thing is going to happen now with this one, don't think the photos are in the correct order. Anyway back to this blog..... Going to Khao Sok National Park is one of the main reasons why I wanted to come to Thailand. Its located in the Surat Thani province - its land area is 739km squared. The park is a remmant of rainforest which is older and more diverse than the Amazon Rainforest! It is truly the most amazing place I've ever been too. I really can't understand why so many tourists bypass it on the way to the islands. They are seriously missing ... read more

After hopping on a local bus at Surat Thani we headed west through the familiar landscape of Southern Thailand...lush vegetation, coconut palms, rubber plantations and typical busy townships. After two hours the scenery became more mountainous and farms gave way to jungle as we arrived at Khao Sok National Park. This huge protected preserve is part of the world's oldest rainforest and the damp, oozing jungle is towered over by incredible soaring karst formations. We're staying at a place called 'Our Jungle House' where we have our own treehouse perched in the forest overlooking the dense vegetation and flowing river below. The treehouse is pretty rustic but comfortable and thankfully has good mosquito nets! This morning we set off after breakfast and headed to the National Park Headquarters where we picked up a map and started ... read more

What a wonderful place to wake up to! Khaoh Sok, is Southern Thailands largest national park that covers around 500 square Kilometres and is home to many large wild mammals such as the tiger, leopard and elephant. Sounds scary, but you are very unlikely to encounter any of these majestic beasts on a single day hike in the park. You would have to head much deeper into the untouched jungle to have the possibility of catching a glimpse of one. And even then, the likelihood of seeing one is unfortunately very slim. Breakfast was cooked in the rickety little restaurant by the managers wife and was pretty good! Boiled eggs and toast for me. Mr Tawee told us to gather our things for the hike while his wife prepared us a Pad Thai packed lunch, ... read more
