Today was our first real day where we havent had plans to go anywhere, or do anything in particular. We said last night that we should get out and see Chiang Mai today, and thats exactly what we did. Sort of. We had a slightly delayed start due to heavy heads from randomnly coming across a reggae bar with an awesome all Thai live band, mainly playing Bob Marley and covers of famous songs like 'Girl Im gonna make you sweat (whats that called??) 'I feel good', and adding trumpet and trombone solos. Was so cool hearing dont worry be happy by possibly the best live band I have seen in Thailand. Thai people have such musical talent, 99% % of places at night have live entertainment. Last night the band were a 7 piece, and ... read more

Today I have mainly washed elephants and fed them fruit by hand, so just a normal day really. WOW. It was unreal. Walking into the park being surrounded by these majestic giants felt like being in the land before time or something. It was so cool to see. We paid 2500 Baht each (25quid) to essentially be volunteers for the day at Elephant Nature Park. The idea is that there are about 30 nellys who have had a traumatic life, and now are in a dedicated sanctuary with volunteers and full time staff to help clean and feed them. When I say traumatic by the way, I dont mean a 5 minute bath instead of half an hour - I mean they have been put through physical and mental hell by their previous owners. We watched ... read more

So it is farewell to Chiang Mai, for little while, we’ll definitely come back to do some cycling, yoga etc etc We have had a wonderful time in Chiang Mai. Arrived nearly 2 ½ months ago and have really loved it very much. Since our last post we have really got a little routine going that suits us. Rise with coffee at leisurely 9.00am Read e-mails, even get to watch ABC News (Australian network) Then do some yoga (our own fusion of vinyasa and ashtanga) at the gym in our apartment Head off for late brunch at 12.00pm. Our daily haunt has been “Tips”, a smoothie bar in the local Somphet Market. Tip is lovely young lady who whips delicious fruit smoothies and makes the best fresh fruit salad with muesli and yoghurt. Our favourite smoothies ... read more

So...we catch a 12 hour nightbus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to a hostel called.. NicePlace2 and they weren't kidding..it was pretty nice! Anyway we book a 3 day jungle trek into the national park and find ourselves in a fantastic group of 7 being tuk tuk'd to a remote viliage where nobody speaks english and they fed us and sent us on a little trek to an even smaller villiage where we met our english speaking guide, David Beckham and his buddies, Java, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. We Spent the afternoon there playing poker, walking around talking pictures of the locals and helping them make rice then our famous friends make us dinner and treated us to a dance performance by the locals. And we all slept in one hut on the ground .. ... read more

Chiang Mai!

Meet our new home, Chiang Mai, Thailand We’ve already been here one month. We arrived on 11 January from India and it was a little case of love at first sight. FYI we decided go to Chiang Mai based on feedback from one of Dave’s yoga teachers in Sydney, Tim, who mentioned how wonderful this place was. We've been to Phuket 3 times so it was time to see the north. After some quick reading it was evident that this spot is home to many a global nomad and expat. We’ve met some nice people who spend a good chunk of their time here for work or just hanging from Germany, London, New York, Holland, California, etc. After a 1.5 hr flight north of Bangkok, we arrived in the middle of their winter season, so ... read more

We,ve been in chiang mai 4 days now, for those of you who are looking for a good cheap guest house to stay I highly recommend the goodwill, easy acces to the city but quiet, it has a kitchen on the roof where guests gathers to exchange stories. Cliff and Tukta our friends from canada who live in chiang mai have been touring us around everyday. After our tour of the temple and the kings summer home. Sean and I walked to night market, did not really eat there, but had expesive italian ice cream, (for our budget anyway) We've been eating our dinners at the goodwill our bagette , cheese and meats. Yesterday cliff and tukta picked us up again at 9.00 am. they drove us to there house in numboluang village about 35 min ... read more

We walked around the city trying to find a good guest house and finally settled at a quiet place for 300 bhts a night (£6). It had WiFi and a TV too which made a nice change. We had not slept much the previous night so decided to grab some lunch and take a walk around the area we were staying in before having a cat nap later in the afternoon. That evening we found the main area of town where the bars, restaurants, massage (legit) places were and also a night market. Spent a couple of hours wondering around the market but the items on sale were pretty much what we had already seen in Bangkok. We stumbled across an indoor food market selling all kinds of different hot dishes. I tried a yellow curry ... read more

Evidently on this trip we are incapable of arriving anywhere with a moments time to spare, and as per usual were cutting it fine unable to even cram in a snack shop on the way. It took us ages to try and find a way into the station after we found the entrances at the front were locked with iron chains and bars and the homeless settling down for the night in each door-way. We did manage to sneak in through the back door in KFC and later realised there was a side entrance with no doors on at all! To top it off we then had to weave our way past all the doughnut and cake stands to board for departure with me tagging behind hoping Scott would turn round and notice me drooling, waiting ... read more

So not much to report for today, we got up at 12pm slept like logs, I think the heat and travel have finally caught up on us! We went to the "Thai 1 on" bar for breakfast, G got a wopper bacon sandwich it looked yummy I got granola and fresh fruit which was sooooo tasty :) Then we had to sort out our accommodation for the next 2 days. We went to a place that was highly recommended on tripadvisor, but they were full and sent us down the road. Place looks ok but we are a bit scooby dubious! It is half the price of where we are staying now and looks much the same so what is there to lose! We looked at doing some tours got, some prices, now we need to ... read more
