After what will be a year that we have been on the road, in late April, we will be heading home to Sydney. We are very excited to be with friends and family and it will be very interesting to see what our next adventures will be. But before we land in Sydney we are off to Nepal to trek in the Annapurna and Lang Tang regions for 3 weeks. We leave beautiful Chiang Mai knowing we will definitely be back. We can't wait to post photos and adventure snippets from our 2nd trip to Nepal. Happy trails. Ciao xxx ... read more

So it is farewell to Chiang Mai, for little while, we’ll definitely come back to do some cycling, yoga etc etc We have had a wonderful time in Chiang Mai. Arrived nearly 2 ½ months ago and have really loved it very much. Since our last post we have really got a little routine going that suits us. Rise with coffee at leisurely 9.00am Read e-mails, even get to watch ABC News (Australian network) Then do some yoga (our own fusion of vinyasa and ashtanga) at the gym in our apartment Head off for late brunch at 12.00pm. Our daily haunt has been “Tips”, a smoothie bar in the local Somphet Market. Tip is lovely young lady who whips delicious fruit smoothies and makes the best fresh fruit salad with muesli and yoghurt. Our favourite smoothies ... read more

Robbo's adventure into raw food cooking I had the opportunity to learn some techniques to ‘cook’ raw vegan food with the wonderful chef, Loyenda. I joined two other students, Joseph Lee (Yoga teaching star) and Nic from Belgium (Massage therapist / Physiotherapist) for some cooking adventures . Loyenda is a based in Chiang Mai & also Amsterdam where he holds raw food workshops. His website: http://yendakreatives.wordpress.com/about/ ‘I love the flavours you get from going in the ‘raw’ and surprising there is very little effort compared to regular cooking to create some wonderful soups, salads, pies, crackers, smoothies, dressings and sauces’. Key tools are: a blender, a food processor, spiral vegetable slicer, mortal and pestle and if getting serious then invest in a dehydrator machine. We learnt how to use the dehydrat... read more

Meet our new home, Chiang Mai, Thailand We’ve already been here one month. We arrived on 11 January from India and it was a little case of love at first sight. FYI we decided go to Chiang Mai based on feedback from one of Dave’s yoga teachers in Sydney, Tim, who mentioned how wonderful this place was. We've been to Phuket 3 times so it was time to see the north. After some quick reading it was evident that this spot is home to many a global nomad and expat. We’ve met some nice people who spend a good chunk of their time here for work or just hanging from Germany, London, New York, Holland, California, etc. After a 1.5 hr flight north of Bangkok, we arrived in the middle of their winter season, so ... read more

Catch of the Day, Varkala

Had a good catch lately? Along the western coastline of Kerala are hundreds of small fishing villages. The fishermen have a unique process, which involves hauling in massive nets by hand with up to 20+ men on either side pulling it into the beach. You will also see divers dipping down for crayfish, mussels and other shellfish offshore from the beach and then in the evening the water line is lit up with multitudes 100's of fishing boats’ lanterns – so much so that it looks like a island/city is out at sea. The fishermen are not only supplying the Varkala cafes and the local market but their catch also goes up north to Mumbai and/or inland to other cities. You will see the some of catch being sold in baskets to the restaurant owners ... read more

Happy 2012 from the cliff tops in Varkala from two very chilled out souls. Read about the vibe here Quick summary of the beautiful Varkala – our home for nearly a month and what we loved about it: - Beautiful crystal clear ocean and clean beaches, even have dolphins swimming offshore at sunset. Pretty good waves for body surfing - Amazing sunsets and equally amazing sunny days given it is winter at the moment, expect 35 degrees & upwards - Waking up and going to sleep to sound of ocean and breezes of the palm / coconut trees from our home base. We have absolute ocean views from our bed. - The stars are so bright as very little in the way of lights exce... read more

Read about the highs and back bending moments for our month long stay at Sivananda Ashram, Neyyar Dam Kerala…. We’ve just completed our four week stay at a traditional yoga ashram while Dave undertook an intensive Teacher Training Course or ‘TTC to deepen his practise. He graduated with flying colours after one tough month with his fellow TTC graduates. We enjoyed although some ups and downs in mood just due to the intensity of this place at times. We’d definitely recommend as a beautiful location and great way to immerse yourself in the full way of yogic life so you can then take what you need (e.g. create and/or deepen your own meditation practise or polish up your asana practise etc) Here are some outtakes of our experience here: Rise and shine its morning time ... read more

GOa, India but we’re ‘standing still’ Part 1:getting to Goa was fun….here is the pre-Goa action we had. We decided to drive rather than fly so we drove for 5+ hours in tiny hatchback taxi from Rishikesh to Delhi airport from 4.30am Sunday 23 October 2011. Our driver had to be ‘woken up’ to start the journey but after a few yawns, cup of tea and his smokes he sprung into action and off we raced to Delhi in pitch darkness. Luckily he was sleeping in the nearby travel agent office near our Rishikesh cottage so Dave just had to bang on the metal roller door to wake them up. It was an amazing journey to see life early in the day India-style. We saw loads of people springing into life with morning tea, breakfast, ... read more

Getting our yoga on……tougher than trekking? Sadly we departed Nepal on 13 October 2011, which we truly loved visiting to enter a new chapter of our adventures in India. 1st stop was a quick night in Delhi in hotel near airport before flying back up north to Dehra Dun, near the Indian side of the Himalayas to the holy city of Rishikesh and the mighty Ganges river. Rishikesh is also a mecca for all things related to yoga with numerous ashrams and training schools and casual yoga hall classes to cater for the young foreign tourists (Israel, Austria, Belgium, Japan, . We are in a pure vegetarian, no alcohol zone here (not that this is bad) and have taken to doing very intensive ashtanga vinyasa classes (2+ hours/class). Our bodies have been so used to ... read more
