After waking up in Singapore Airport with a gigantic hangover, we booked our bags onto the plane and smashed a bit of Singaporean Burger King (or BGK). The flight to Bangkok with Air Asia was not the most comfortable deal in the world but it only took about an hour or so - with some light entertainment provided by some gag raffle and a talkative Canadian bloke. We touched down in Bangkok and went straight to MBK, the hugest shopping mall i've ever seen. There were shops everywhere, all basically selling the same thing. I think i would have been able to purchase a fire-breathing midget there was so much stuff there. However, they were probably on the 6th floor and we soon got sick of the endless rows of shops and gave up on the ... read more

I got to the airport a little early. Having not confirmed my flight time and with a few delays, I l actually left for the airport about 5 hours before my flight. Awesome. Its about 9 hours to Auckland where I have a lovely 8 hour layover and then a 12 hour flight to Los Angeles. If I am lucky I will have 3-4 hours at LAX and then will head home to San Francisco. A good 35 hours of travel it seems.. I'll see all of you at home soon... Be well, jeff... read more

Well Bangkok continues to be an interesting place, 8 of us have decided to have a longboat tour (007 style) in the canals of Bangkok. We're heading to the 'Floating Market' for a bit of a mooch. It soon became apparently, that like most things in Bangkok the floating market was not what it was cracked up to be! Either the Thai have become very clever and invented concrete that can float or the only bit of the market that was floating was a couple of food stalls and the rest was on dry land. The real floating market (as seen in the bond film) is about 2 hours away so we make do with what we've got. One of the things I've really enjoyed on my travels so far is sampling the local food. ... read more

Alana left really early this morning and I had a meeting with our distributor here in Thailand and a professor at the technical University. It was a very long day. I ended up on the subway at about 6 headed for Siam center. This shopping area in Bangkok is like the Las Vegas strip of shopping malls. Nearly 6 NYC size city blocks full of shopping malls, each catering to a different demographic with various restaurants, food courts and attractions. The people here love the mall, and go to the mall to eat at the many restaurants and buffets which actually seem to have good food. It is hard to get a suggestion of an actual restaurant to go to as everyone suggests the Paragon Shopping Center, or Siam Discovery Center. Its a little over the ... read more

My brain is a jar of pickles right now, i don't know if that is a proper analogy but I don't care. I was on China airlines where the majority spoke chinese, wasn't sure what the pilot or what anyone else was saying at the time, then I happen upon Taiwan where everyone speaks taiwanese which is why I got lost in the first place. Now here I is in Bangkok, Thailand where everyone speaks Thai. I wake up every morning pretty surprised myself how I made it this far. At the airport i had no clue where to go or what to do or where to get my bags, all I know is I had to walk at least a good quarter mile to get to where I needed to be. Changed about $40 USD ... read more

Okay I hope Khoa San was spelled right but I'm not going to check becasue this going to be a quick one. We are here in back backer Bangkok central! And I have that song from Chess stuck in my head 24-7. It's ridonculous. It took a bus, a boat, another bus, a train (sleeping on trains is SOOOOOOO cool), and a tuk-tuk to get us here. It also took Lindsay's ingenious manuevering and planning skills to corall a very Full Moon hungover Emily and a culture dazed Me onto the various vehicles for travel. About the Full Moon party. It was big but the waves were so intense they let no one on the beach. There were a lot of VERY drunk tourists in the streets and the whole thing would have been a bit ... read more

Well here I am..... Bangkok!!! Feeling confident after Phuket I opted for another mini adventure to my hostel and got the bus! I think I said before that my luck might be changing and it is! - the bus not only takes me to the area I'm staying but also drops me off right outside the door!! According to the website the hostel is located in a central area of bangkok - it's a flippin lie!! I'm in some small suberb that is a millon miles away from the centre, however, I don't mind the hostel is a lot like the one in Singapore and has a good bar area to meet other people. After soughting my gear out I head back into the bar area, the place is pretty deserted apart from a group of ... read more

Today at 1700 I am catching the overnight bus/ferry to Koh Samui where I will be for a week. Really looking forward to getting back to Chaweng Beach, which is 3 miles long. This is where I do my morning jog at 6 am. Sure beats jogging along Candlewood Lake this time of year! This was one of the highlights of my trip last year and hope it will be this year as well. Last night I went out to dinner with Wan, the woman I met on the Chao Phraya express boat earlier in the week. We went to an outdoor restaurant in the Khao San area. Good food and great conversation. I am slowly but surely getting accostomed to eating the Thai way, which involves using the spoon to put food into your mouth ... read more
