September 22 Today I returned to Yangon, but just before I left I received an email from Suzzi saying that she had to go to Bangkok that weekend so I could only stay one night. I really didn’t want to spend my last weekend in Yangon alone, so I quickly emailed Ken, the surfer who had contacted me earlier. I said I knew it was short notice, but did he feel like a guest that weekend? Moe Moe tried to make sure I was safely on my way to the bus stop, but the pick-up was waiting for more people. There was a young German guy there, who initially I quite liked but he was one of those people who kept going on about what he’d squeezed out of people for nothing, and how little he ... read more

Hey Guys, This is my first blog entry so i thought i would use this as a background info source for those of you who don't know what i am doing. Next September 4th I will be heading out to Sri Lanka for 2 months to teach English in local schools and orphanages. At the moment I am currently trying to fundraise all i can to help pay for the trip, as the project alone is costing me £1099 plus flights, visas, travel in-country, and food costs all to add on. So overall i need to be raising approx £2500. I will be staying in a communtity centre called Sputnik International in Kurunegala with Mr. Eshantha and his family. If anyone wishes to sponsor me, please do get in touch with me either by email: Gemma.Porter@live.co.uk ... read more

- Yala National Park - Thump, thump, thump. Haley and I quickly look up at the ceiling of our bungalow in Sri Lanka's Yala National Park. We had not planned on seeing any wildlife until our safari tomorrow morning, but the noise on our roof clearly wasn't from the White-breasted Kingfisher we saw earlier - or the wild boar that chased us unto our porch just 30 minutes ago. It was a large troop of monkeys that decided to have a party on our roof (without our consent). Haley and I eagerly ran from window to window checking out our new housemates! Once the troop moved on, we called for an escort to dinner (apparently we had to watch out for elephants roaming through the resort grounds and the hotel required escorts at night) and then ... read more
