I started off this blog with this "lovely" (ha) quote to show you how funny some of the slogans/quotes/advertisements I see here are. This particular sentence is written all over the mat my students sit on during story time. During Daniel's introduction classes with the Army regarding Korean culture he was presented with a gift from the Korean government. It is a set of tea spoons with masks that were created for the Yangju byeolsandae nori; a Mask Dance which is a drama that depicts the joys and sorrows of common people and social concerns. "The drama unfolds as various people including a ruined aristocrat, a deprived monk, a shaman and servants come onstage and disclose the social ironies through unique dance and gestures and both comical and provacative dialogue which are extremely entertaining." The drama ... read more

March 24, 2008 Hey everyone! I have decided to start titling my blogs with funny little quotes that I hear. I find them to be much more entertaining than "Our Easter Weekend" which was in itself not that interesting. Hope you all had a beautiful Easter. Here it was cold and rainy, and didn’t feel at all like Easter. It was early this year, and without the barrage of commercials on TV and decorations on neighbor’s lawns, it just came and went without too much thought. We did go to church, though. There is a little church a couple blocks away, which had been advertised by a business card handed to us outside of the base when we first arrived. The church was small, and the priest (?) had just taken over a few months earlier. ... read more

Hey Everyone, I really don't have a whole lot to talk about today, but I'm just having one of those moments where I am so happy to be here, and so thankful for this awesome opportunity that I just have to share with someone! I know these days are long, and sometimes I am gone for 13 hours a day (between the hour commute to work each way) but it's just such a great feeling to have this freedom to come live in this country and experience all I can while I am here. On Sunday I went with Dan to Camp Stanley where he had to check in and do formation. After he finished he came to the library (where I had my nose in a book) and we went and got some dinner with ... read more

Have you heard about ‘The Iron Curtain’? This phrase describes dividing Europe into two areas after World War Ⅱ. Actually, it was used in 1920, by Ethel Snowden, in the book Through Bolshevik Russia, but this term was widely used after Winston Churchill made popular it in his speech on March 5, 1946. However, after Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) broke down, people have started to be interested in this term and countries which were part of USSR so, this essay will talk about what we are going to think, when we learn about ‘The Iron Curtain’. ‘The Iron Curtain’ is so popular in Europe, which means; people are so interested in and want to know about it. This term makes people unforgettable about there was a time which Europe was separated in two parts. ... read more

Hey Everyone! This week seemed particularly long. The kids weren't exactly on their best behavior anymore and so I've had some (minor) behavior problems. One child, Monica, has been very sad and cries as she rubs her tummy. I think that she is so shy that she is getting stressed out being in school (especially since I don't speak Korean) and it's giving her tummy aches. A few of the other students saw the attention I would give to her, and began to rub their bellies and say "Teacher, I sick, I sick". While I know that there is a good chance they are just attention starved, I must still be concerned, since I cannot really communicate with them to find out exactly what's wrong. On top of that, the last few days some of the ... read more

How great to have plentiful money for trip? How can I make a plan for trip with only $1500? That money would be little, when I am supposed to go to Europe. However, there are some ways to save money for trip. This essay will show how I can organize the trip to Europe with $1500. First of all, I can choose a cheap price accommodation like backpackers or youth hostels. Those have inexpensive price relatively to hotel’s one. Or, I can make a friend and then share the accommodation. These two ways are good to save money. Second, slow trip would be better that fast trip, when I have just $1500. It is because, if I choose slow trip, I might stay in one country long time. Then, I do not have to spend much ... read more

Honestly, if you found something good, I mean really really good, would you want to share it with others at your own expense? I've debated on whether to write this article. Until now, I have felt as though my favorite restaurant in the world is busy enough without me recommending it to others. I mean, this place is packed with locals during dinner eating hours just about every day of the week. There has been no need for me to augment this rush thus causing my waits to eat there to be longer and more frequent. Think about it for a second. What if it's so good that you don't want others coming and ruining it for you? Well the time has come for me to share it with the world. The first reason is that ... read more
