I will take an official trip to Japan from May 14th,2013 to May 23th, 2013. To my luck, I will catch this opportunity to understand the Japanese culture,to travel Tokyo and Osaka and to visit three elementary schools in Tokyo city and Saitama, near Tokyo city. A month ago, I applied to this request program for Korean teachers by the department of foreign affairs of Japan government. I was chosen as the member of this official trip delegation to Japan. This is my official schedul during my official visit to Japan. this schedule is arranged by the department of foreign affairs, Japan. the cost of this official visit to Japan is sponsored by the official funds of foreign affairs, Japan. From 28th August to 4th September, world championships athletic 2011 is held in DAEGU(대구,大邱) city. I went to the world cup stadium where world championships athletic competitions are holding. after my works, with my friend, in night time, I went to the stadium to watch various athletic competitions. in the second day night, I watched Usain Bolt, Jamaican sprinter's disqualification in Men 100meters rush in far distance. If he were not disqualified, I could see him rush to finish line. I was sitting on the bench that is in the near areas of 100meters finish line. another Jamaican sprinter, Yohan Blake gained gold medal in Men's 100meters rush. I could see him who rushed to finish line instead of "Lightning Bolt". In the third day night, I watched women's 100meters, 400meters, men's 110 meters hurdle ... read more

This is my house in Dae-gu city. there are two rooms, a kitchen and living room and one bathroom in this house. I had contracted with the houseowner of this house that this house is exclusively for me from March 14th, 2010 to March 14th 2012 except for the ownership of this house and I could extend this contract if I want. I gave my landlord about 30,000US dollars for this contract. It seems that this contract is somewhat expensive but when this contract is expired, I can refund this money from my landlord. although my landlord will be bankrupt, my money should be secured legally!!!! this is a korean system for a rent house. My landlord is lives on the first floor of this building. I live on second floor and another people live ... read more

This is a filler entry. I actually wrote it a few days ago, and didn't get the chance to finish uploading it until now. At the moment, I'm on my week-long vacation, so I'm not even in Daegu. I thought I'd post it from a PC방 while on the road to let you know I haven't forgotten about you. I've been teaching these little kiddies for 8 months, now, and I've learned a thing of two about understanding things that would make absolutely no sense to people outside of the "English teacher" community here in SoKo. * The first thing I guess I'll address is the most popular and most talked-about, erm, thing in the typical Korean elementary student's vocabulary. Fondly referred to as "D-D-O-N-G," ddong (똥) is Korean for, you guessed it, human excrement. No ... read more

Departures - Philippines After a long workday mixed with a strange brew of anticipation and boredom , Chanel and I boarded a 1am bus bound for Incheon Airport to begin our backpacking trip through the Philippines. We knew we had a lot packed into a quick five days, but we were up for the challenge. We arrived swiftly and without incident in a record 3 hours because of the sparse late night traffic. The bus ride was rather fun because Korea was playing Nigeria at 3am and the bus driver excitedly turned the game on at 3am sharp. The fans here, by the way, in Korea were crazy with world cup fever, most walking around the city sporting some sort of red tshirt with a grammatically incorrect slogan splattered across their fronts. "The Shouts of Reds", ... read more

Keen observation, Eric. It's probably because you crazy kids make me. Winter Intensives are officially over, and I'm actually kind of sad about it. While it's nice not having to get up at 9 AM every morning, I miss my students. They really were a sweet bunch of kids, and my intensive classes allowed me a bit more freedom than my usual rounds. I should talk about the new penalty system that my branch introduced on January 25th. It doesn't have a name, but I will try and explain. We've had a lot of problems in the past with students who do not behave. Unfortunately, our branch doesn't really do the whole "RMA" thing like the rest of Chungdahm, so we've had a difficult time determining just how "bad" (I don't like calling them bad, because ... read more

It's kind of remarkable how much I've learned from my students. Each student in each of my classes seems to want to take on the unofficial role of "Cultural Instructor" in an attempt to get me in-the-know in Korea. No, really. I can honestly say that without my Korean kids, I would have no idea how to count in Korean. Now I can count from 0 - 100 without any problems, though sometimes it takes me a minute to remember 5, 6, and 9. Don't believe me? 영 일 이 삼 사 오 역 칠 팔 구 십 십일 십이 십삼 십사 십오 십역 십칠 십팔 십구 이십... and so on. That's right. I can count. I also learn some really random Korean words from them. They try so hard to teach me! lol For example: ... read more

Ahh, I should update more often, but when I'm not teacher, I'm rotting my brain with KPop or KDrama. Too addicting. My bad. I'm going to try and write two entries in a row tonight, so bear with me :) It's time to launch into what it's like teaching English with ChungDahm April. For this semester, I've had it kind of easy, to be honest. At my branch, the students are broken into classes like this: * Seedbed: Starter, 1, 2 * Seed: 1, 2 * Sprout: 1, 2, 3 * Sapling: 1, 2 * Junior Master Anywho. I only teach Seed 1, Seed 2, Sprout 1, and Sprout 2. So the rest really doesn't apply to me. I usually get the youngest kids earlier in the day, and the older kids at night. Just because ... read more
