JEWEL BOX CABLEWAY & SENTOSA ISLAND,SINGAPORE. Saturday 3 March, 2012. For our last day in Singapore (and our first day on the ship) we had already decided that we would visit Sentosa Island. The island can be accessed by road, but another way of getting there is to take the Jewel Box Cableway which is very touristy and expensive but was another of Dick and Patsy's recommendations. We had left it until today as the Cableway Station is actually adjacent to the Cruise Terminal so we thought we could easily get there without having to take the tube or a bus. The Cruise Terminal also has a massive shopping centre attached to it, so we had hoped to do some last minute shopping before leaving Singapore. The best laid plans.... Unbeknown to us, the ship had ... read more

First full day in Singapore - I think I'm going to like it here. I've got the washing on the go again so I've got even more clean clothes to pick from - I've not been so spoilt for choice since October 13th.... On Anver's 'must see' list in the flat, are two places I'm going to tackle today - Mount Faber and Sentosa. Conveniently both are linked by cable car - another iconic Singapore attraction. I think I might be able to cross off a hattrick of things all in one go! I worked out that I can get a bus straight from the condo to the Harbour Front, where the cable car station is. Successful navigation to said destination, and I pick up the cable car, on what appears to be the 15th floor ... read more

Flight was pretty good - Nic was over it with 3 hours to go and vowed never to fly this far again. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will convince her its worth a day or two of plane boredom. Got from Changi Airport to our hotel with the help of about 3 locals who didnt even wait to be asked, just offered advice or help. One guy even - showed us how to get our S$1 refund fo train ticket - walked us to the bus stop - found the right bus for us - got ON the bus with us - got off the bus at our stop, then jumped on his own bus and disappeared For a while there I thought we were going to need an extra bed i our room! It's my 2nd week here in Singapore and I finally tire of my solitude when everyone is out to work. So I set out to the most famous tourist spot for Filipinos - Sentosa Island/Universal Studios. Thankful that my brother's friend and our housemate, Joemill lent me his tripod. So, now I can do a bit of camwhoring today. You can go to Sentosa with just your Ezlink card for S$1 if you walk, or S$3 if you take the train. This is another example of how easily you can access another attraction cheaply, if not free in Singapore. Since I'm currently unemployed and living from the graces of my kind brother, I just paid for my entrance and Songs of the Sea show. It's no fun to try all the rides and activities by yourself ... read more

It's time to take a break from a busy work. I spent a vacation on March 27-31,2011. On that period, I visited Cebu and Singapore. With my backpack, I started my travel at around 9 am. I took a tricycle on my way to polytechnic school and a taxi to the airport. Their usual rate is P300 but I got it at P200.It's my second time to see Mactan airport. After my arrival at Lapu-Lapu city, I asked the driver to bring me to Gaisano mall. I have no place to stay so I inquired. I don’t know how to spent my one and a half day before my flight to Singapore and so I decided to have a tour around the city. I went to different beaches of Maregondon. Since I allot a small budget ... read more

I was beaten to the punch this morning as Dai was already up and had the coffee on the go. My head was a little sore but nowhere near as bad as it had been yesterday. Today's plan was a chill out day at the Tanjong Beach Club on Sentosa with a few of the rugby boys. With breakfast inside us, Dai drove us to Sentosa...driving so we didn't have to drink today! Sentosa is a man-made island to the south of Singapore. I suppose putting man-made and Singapore in the same sentence is a bit weird as it's all man-made and pruned to perfection within an inch of it's life, but this was something else. The causeway to the island had a monorail running over it. The support columns to the monorail had had ivy ... read more

Piled our selves off the Universal Studios via a taxi and the monorail. Had breakfast at some typical Singapore tourist trap called Mr Toast or something. Headed into Universal Studios where we tried nearly every ride and show plus some overpriced lunch and a beer that would have been horrendously overpriced except it was two for one. The waitress seemed confused when I said I didn’t mind if they came out at the same time, but when one was empty when they brought out Nads cocktail, I think she got it. She also seemed confused when I said I wanted a cloth to clean the sticky table. She brought back a couple of refresher towels, but they worked. Got a photo with Beetlejuice, some Egyptian people, Shrek and Fiona (I’m sure she said “over there with ... read more

I lived in Singapore for a year from 2008 – 2009. I actually didn’t know much about this city-state before I headed down. The nation was quite lively as opposed to its size of the island. Their GDP growth rate, TV news said, was 14.7% last year. Maybe growing faster than China??... read more
