Sonntag, 1.

Four days a ago, an early summer holiday had come to passed. It started with two people, united by love but temporarily and physically separated because of work priority. Summer holidays, we took every advantages of it and started to plan. A three (3) days to savor, embrace, enjoy and grow in love together. Where to go? To this new White Sand Resort located somewhere East of Bohol Island, the excitement was created by a good client who graciously talked about the said resort. Without a doubt, this is the place we prayed for. Trip started. Almost two hours, the Supercat Fast Ferry will take us to Bohol Island. Around 1030am we arrived at Tagbilaran City and welcomed by a courteous driver (from the said Resort), give us a safe ride. It takes one hour and ... read more

Our second attempt to visit the Chocolate Hills was a success, we made it accident free! I should mention Tris drove the whole time. We stopped to see where I did crash... when you come around the corner you dont have much time to stop for the bridge. Plus the bridge was wide enough for 2 vehicles to go at a time, so why the guy in front of me stopped on his motorbike I dont know.. The man made forest doesn't look like much to us as we see forests like this all the time in Canada. The Filipinos LOVE it because its so different from all the other jungle/forests they have. Anyway the Chocolate Hills were really neat looking. It is believed that the island of Bohol used to be under water. The Chocolate ... read more

Today we decided to go check out what Bohol island is famous for, The Chocolate Hills. The drive was really pretty through rice terraces, small villages etc. On our way we stopped at the Tarsier site. The tarsier used to be the smallest known mammal in the world but now there is another mammal that takes this recognition. The tarsier is a really cute mammal with owl like eyes, rat like tail, and bat like ears. They are nocturnal, and though a lot of them in the tourist site are awake because people are loud they cannot see good. The tarsiers eat insects and crickets. They only have 1 baby a year, and the baby is the size of a thumb when it is born. The mother tarsier has 6 nipples, but only 4 give milk. ... read more

Today we took a 2 hour ferry to the island of Bohol, and then a tricycle to the island called Panglao. It is connected to Bohol by a bridge. We weren't to impressed with our room when we arrived, but we are located in a far away place so we decided to stick it out for one night. The room was small, the shower had a big hole in it, its located right at the front of the property in like off a garage area.. just wasn't worth the money. On a plus, the room comes with a motorbike so we can travel around the island. We went and checked out a few more hotels but everything is really pricey. We came back and asked if we could switch to a different room tomorrow, and they ... read more

Well it had to happen sooner or later, my first mishap on this trip. The morning I was leaving Siquijor it was low tide so we had to take a very small traditional boat out to the diveboat which was anchored about 70 meters offshore. There was me, another tourist, and a 14 year old boatman, and as we were pulling up to the dive boat somehow we capsized and I went under the water with my daypack on my back which contained my camera, phone, wallet, and a few other things. Thank god that my backpack was already delivered to the dive boat earlier. To their credit the crew of the boat reacted very quickly when I passed my soaked daypack up to them they quickly took the contents out, took the batteries out of ... read more

Bohol is a province in Central Visayas located between Cebu and Leyte and to its south is the island of Mindanao. Because of its location, Bohol is shielded from typhoons and heavy rains. Here is an account of my recent trip to the tenth largest island in the Philippines. To get from Manila to Bohol, we made a stopover first in Cebu. The airfare to Cebu was cheaper than to Tagbilaran when we booked the flight and the additional 745-peso ferry ride made the total fare almost the same. It was a longer route but we wanted to ride the ferry. From Cebu International Airport, we took a taxi to Cebu pier. There were people outside the airport offering a 475-peso-fixed-rate or a 70-peso-flagdown-3.50-per-kilometer taxi to the pier. But there are normal metered taxis just outside ... read more

I took the 730 boat from Dumaguete to Tagbilaran on Bohol, then after taking a habal-habal to the jeepney station I caught a jeepney to Nuts Huts. Not sure where I wanted to get off I was hoping the guy I paid would let me know but he fell asleep so after passing the sign I told the lady next to me and the bus stopped not too far down the road. It was then a 20 min walk from the road through the forest and down about 50 steps. After checking in it was off down another 50 or so steps to the dorm room. Wow these steps were going to kill me! After getting lunch from the street side stall I took the bus to the chocolate hills where the moment I stepped off ... read more

This first album is from the day we arrived in the Philippines. These are the images I took during our first day on the island. We decided to leave our resort around noon after a four-hour nap in the morning. La Estrella Beach Resort is located on the northwestern edge of the island. There are several dirt roads and a few paved bits to walk around the island. The island's population is around 4,000 people. 90% of the people walk the island to get from one place to another. Otherwise there are motorscooters and a variety of boats. During our walk across the island we met people of the island, saw the cemetery, ate lunch on the northeast side of the island at Cabilao Beach Club Resort and enjoyed the warm tropical sunshine. These are the ... read more
