Today I woke up to the most fantastic view I have ever had on my way to the bathroom! Gangapurna sat there huge, pristine and white and I couldn't help smiling to be this deep in the Himalayas, effectively sandwiched between Gangapurna (7454m) on the west side and Chulu East (6300m) on the east side, amazing! The sun was blazing down on us and there were clear blue skies! Magic! Only problem was it mine and Gansa's turn to get the shits! We both drank cold lemon drinks on arriving yesterday whilst Clarisa sensibly stuck with tea so this may be the culprit! Either way feeling glad we're not straight on to Thorong Phedi today! Without going into specifics I was fairly sure this was bacterial and opted for my course of ciprofloxacin earlier than I ... read more
The last time i sat down to write about our travels, we were sat sizzling in the approaching monsoon heat of Southern India. It is fair to say we have been through the whole range of weathers and emotions in the weeks since I last wrote. From Kerala, we took an overnight train to the state of Karnataka where we were due to arrive at our stop at 3.08am. Knowing the poor reliability of Indian trains, I had visions of Alex waking us up at 2.50am (She always has to be early for everything!) and then the train being delayed for 6 hours and us having been sat up all night waiting for our station. As it turned out, it was on time and we jumped off into the pitch darkness into a very un-Indian scene ... read more
Well as you will have surmised I have been back sake and sound in Pokhara for the last couple of days and I'm going to finish telling you about my trip in one go. Photos will have to wait until I get back however as it is quite expensive to get the photos put onto DVD and I want to spend the money on massages instead. Obviously. People kept asking me how the trek compared to Everest Base Camp. It was surprisingly difficult to answer. A lot of people had heard that the EBC trek was a lot harder. I'm not sure. The distances are longer with Annanpurna and the facilities more basic (though the food was better). Only saw one sit down toilet along the whole trek (toilets again! sorry!). Also seeing Everest was such ... read more

url='/Videos/2637.html' onclick='dialog("/Videos/2637.html?popped=1","tbvideo",600,600);return false;' First Nepalese bus ride Getting across the border was easy. Visa for 3 months was also a doddle. Hiring the jeep to take the four of us to Kathmandu was also hassle free until the driver started cramming in more than the one extra person he specified and at the 4th peron we said enough! The road down from Kodari through the valley was desperate - it's hard to believe that the buses can get up here. After 10km we broke the front axle and even though the driver was adamant that he could repair it with just a hammer and an adjustable spanner, we decided to investigate our options. We elected to send Monika and Martin to the next village to see what was available and then also maybe check out the ... read more
Hiking was fun for a day and a half, climbing in the wet heat by the river and waterfalls. Then I met my two companions for the most of the rest of the trek - Tim from Melbourne and Jules from Oxford. Jules had left the British Army as a Captain 6 months ago and Tim was traveling after quitting his job. As soon as we met we continued together, Tim is a very good cards player who taught me some variants on 500. We heading up into Manang which was very Tibetan and nice and found some great places to stay while talking lots on the trek.... read more
