Today is the 28th of March and we went to the top of the Petronas Twin Towers, they are the second tallest buildings in the world. The towers are 370m high. We went to the 86th floor and there are 88 floors in the whole building. On the way back to the hotel we met a tropical rain storm, it was like a swimming pool and we had to wade throe puddles and we got drenched just as we approached the hotel the rain stopped.... read more

Selamat Pagi ! The heat hit us as we walked out of KL airport, even though it was half past Midnight - glorious ! we three of us had to share a bed for the rest of the night in an enormous hotel room but which only had a small double bed - we were too exhausted to complain at that time of night. By daylight our hotel, the Pacific Regency, is grand, with a roof top swimming pool and (distant) views of the Petronas Twin Towers. First activity at Eve's insistence was the pool of course ! We ventured by walking to the Twin Towers in the afternoon but got lost and hot and flustered immediately - KL is a sprawling mass of congested traffic with no signs and with the usual Asian pavements full ... read more

Day 190 (Sat 16thMarch) My first full day was to be spent at a music festival, namely the Future Music Festival Asia. When I booked to come to KL I had no idea it was on, a couple girls told me about it in Vietnam so I looked it up and decided to go. I popped out for breakfast in the morning to come across a familiar face passing me by. I wasn’t sure at first but I thought about it as I carried on. I headed into the hostel after a brief walk to see exactly who I thought it was, being Olive (I met Olive in Bangkok in December). Turns out she was here with her friends from University in Singapore. This was handy as I now had someone to go to the gig ... read more

I was shown this clip today of a truly inspirational man that I wanted to share with you; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_3BEwpv0dM Envision success and you're likely to remain motivated in trying to achieve whatever goal you've set. Envision failing and you probably will. It's a blessing to travel; to observe, to learn, to meet, to see, to smell, to taste and to touch. In an era where we are fed a narrative that the world is a dangerous place, that those who think differently than us are wrong, where we are led to believe that people are untrustworthy, these moments taken from travel are a blessing. They have great power even in small doses – the power to transform the world, one person at a time. Travel plants the seeds of the future it can expand your life ... read more

THINK....Bike Words we hear and see so publicly in the media. This is because Motorcyclists make up a disproportionate percentage of all road traffic accident victims, purely because of their vulnerability on the road. Last night whilst walking towards Masjid Jamek on our way to get food; we witnessed a horrific example of this misfortune. Both driver and passenger came off the bike whilst turning a corner. The male passenger without helmet I must add and no protective clothing hit the tarmac head first in his unforeseen impact with the road. The female driver with helmet hurtled through the air, landing only to injure her knee. I must say that I am not a physician in any way not did I attend to either of the victims and I would hope that both are recovering well ... read more

People tend to romanticise foreign countries by saying the people there appreciate the important things in life, or are happier with what they have, or generally lead simpler lives that aren’t based on rushing around, checking your email 20 times a day and being so career oriented. What do I think? At the start of this adventure I was larger than life. Everything became more intense and less commonplace. Life was vibrant, I was constantly learning. There is this feeling, like being in a magic bubble and watching the iridescent sides of that confine shimmer before it implodes; that would have been on my return home. Back in the UK, I would wake up every day feeling pushed for time. Rushing to get to work, rushing home from work. I lived to work. In travel though, ... read more

It had been 6 weeks since Sam surprised me with the prospect of coming out to Kuala Lumpur for a few days and with the thought also of staying in a lovely hotel and the arrival of packages from home, we all had our own reasons for being massively excited about his coming visit. Our plane from Siem Reap touched down at Kuala Lumpur airport in the late morning of Sunday February 10th and I'm afraid to say that we didn't set off the proceedings particularly well. Maybe our excitement had clouded us with stupidity or perhaps the one hour time difference had set our minds to malfunction but we arrived with not even a remote inkling of where we were going or which currency we would use to get there. I have blamed it once ... read more

There are two experiences that compare to the excitement of travel. Researching, budgeting and planning itineraries can be just as exciting as the journey itself, whilst the other recently discovered experience is presenting speeches about travel to an international audience numbering in the hundreds. Last year provided my introduction into the world of speaking at international fora , where I was most impressed by the hospitality and professionalism on display at the Malaysia International Tourism Bloggers Conference & Awards (MITBCA). Not only was I invited to return to MITBCA in 2013, but this invite extended to its sister event, Malaysia Social Media Week (MSMW). I arrived a few days prior to MSMW in order to adjust to the time zone and prepare my presentation, “From Dang... read more

Apart from the mosquitos taking rather a liking to me and nibbling me to pieces, we have just spent a lovely 3 days exploring KL and all it has to offer. It won't surprise you to hear that food and drink have featured highly on the agenda. Sunday - following an extremely lazy day, feeling like lounge lizards, we started with evening cocktails on the Roof terrace before heading out for a truly delicious meal at Nerovivo, serving Italian cuisine. Unusual in Asia and very unlike us, but the standard of food and service were exceptional. Yesterday morning - first stop, Chow Kit market, named after the district Chow Kit and after the miner and municipal councillor, Loke Chow Kit. This colourful market is the largest wet market in KL, with narrow walkways leading to stalls ... read more
