Gosh, who'd have thought three months would go by so fast? Also, who'd have thought I could accumulate so much stuff in such a short space of time? Honestly, even with posting things home along the way I find I have had to purchase a rollie suitcase thing in order to transport all my gumpf home. Ack! A backpacker with a rollie suitcase, what is the world comming to? Anyway, my last two days have been spent in Kuala Lumpur, a city I was not expecting to like (on the advice of fellow travellers met along the way) but it's actually [View Full Entry]

The next morning we headed to the Belcher’s apartment. It is huge! All the bedrooms have ensuites and the view is amazing. We will certainly be comfortable here for the next week. But I guess we need to lap it up while we can because it will get harder and accommodation will get dirty and uncomfortable. We all headed to the Batu Caves together. The Batu Caves are significant to the Hindi’s of KL. The first thing that you notice is a huge gold statue of Shiva alongside two hundred and seventy two steps to enter the cave. We all began [View Full Entry]

09The next morning we all decided to go to the Batu Caves. Glen was in charge of haggling for the taxis. They do not often want to use their meter in the cab because they don’t earn as much, so you have to find a taxi that will turn on their meter. We all piled into two cabs, we got in with Glen and showed us a few sights along the way. We turned up at the Batu Caves and gazed upon a huge gold statue of Shiva. Beside Shiva was 272 steep stairs straight up into the caves. The caves [View Full Entry]

The phone rang at 7:00am for our wake up call. It was hard to get out of bed and you really don’t realise how important it is to have a window in your room until you don’t have one. We quickly packed and threw on the clothes that I washed last night in the shower. They were still quiet damp but it had a cooling effect when you stepped out into the Singapore heat. We caught a taxi to Queen St. Bus terminal and tried to find somewhere to eat. It was the first time we actually had to put our [View Full Entry]

Hi! Nothing much to report over the last couple of days, we've just been chilling out. Went to the Batu caves yesterday - which was nice. Sarah tried to feed a monkey and almost got mobbed by all of them and then one nearly jumped on me as I tried to walk past! Apart from that we've been on a pedallo in the Lake Gardens and played on old arcade games on the 4th floor of an Afflek's Palace type place. We will get up early enough to go up the Petronas Towers at some point! Tim [View Full Entry]

We jumped on a bus from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur (KL). After 2 hours we arrived in the city, but it took us another hour to negotiate the traffic and get to the bus station! We had booked into the Attapsana Guest House in the Bukit Bintang area (love that name!) of the city and it was a lovely quiet wee place. It was very basic and cost 12 UK pounds a night but was in a great location and the owner was very helpful and friendly. It was more like a homestay as you walked through the owner's livingroom to [View Full Entry]

Monday, Dec 7th Ok, I just need to get this off my mind, but wtf are men thinking sometimes??? Or better wtf are some men NOT THINKING sometimes. OK, here’s the story: I’m staying at this really nice hotel in KL right now and I just took the lift up to my room. So this guy was in the elevator with me and asked me “so, where are you from?” second question “are you here by yourself?” third question “oh, can I come up with you?” I think I expressed my opposition to his third question quite clearly, but still… The [View Full Entry]

Hello again, So I left it a bit of a secret of where I was off to after Palau, if you read the title already, you can see that I went to Malaysia with a quick little stop in Brunei (just to say I've been there). After spending a couple extra days in Manila I flew to Kota Kinabalu, KK as its known as. It was a nice change from manic Manila to come to a place with roughly 200,000 people. It was also my first Muslim country that I visited on this trip, and I think ever. What can I [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Thanks for the messages, We hope you are all getting excited for Christmas, we see a few Christmas trees here and there and a few cardboard snowmen, but it doesn't seem quite realistic in the 30 degree heat!! We have had a great 2 weeks in Malaysia, it was a good start as we arrived at the airport & saw a load of ex-professional footballers flying in to take part in a Masters tournament. Mark was further pleased when he was asked by the photographer if he was one of the team. I think I blew his cover as [View Full Entry]
