Gisteren (zondag) is er niet veel gebeurd. Op tijd opgestaan om richting de Bromo vulkaan te rijden. Totaal is dat ong 350km, en daar doe je hier ongeveer 9 a 10 uur over. Eind van de middag kwamen we bij het hotel aan. Prachtig gelegen op het hoogste punt van de berg, tegenover de Bromo vulkaan. Qua hotel was het niet heel erg goed, maar ja, je kunt niet alles willen. Helaas werd het al meteen donker, dus veel konden we niet meer zien. Vanmorgen werden we gewekt om 3.30, om ons na het aankleden met een Jeep naar uitkijkpunt van de Bromo vulkaan te brengen. Mount Bromo Our last night in Malang was rough. The bus to Mount Bromo left at 1:00am so we tried to get to bed at a reasonable hour the night before in order to get a few hours of sleep. However, the gazebo that we adored so much the evening before, suddenly became impossible to sleep in. The trucks and motorcycles zinging past a few floors down seemed to be going right through our bamboo walls and the guest house bar of course had some thirsty patrons hanging around that weren't too concerned with our lack of sleep. 28 juin 2012, Java On est arrivé à Jakarta vraiment fatigués. Faut dire que depuis le Népal, on a enchaîné deux jours de déplacements interminables en autobus avec un train de nuit, puis deux vols entrecoupés de nuits en dortoir. On a tellement mal dormi qu’on a finalement décidé de passer la 3e nuit à l’aéroport, d’autant plus qu’on partait très tôt le matin. Surprise au comptoir de Air Asia à Singapour : ils ne nous enregistraient pas si nous n’avions pas de preuve de sortie de l’Indonésie dans le prochain mois! Je croyais que c’était au bureau de l’immigration que nous allions peut-être devoir acheter un billet d’avion de retour pour obtenir notre visa, mais non. Our itinerary & timelines: Fly from Jakarta to Surabaya -> Acco at Surabaya -> hire rental car & leave from Surabaya at 12 am to reach cemoro Lawang which is the base of volcano at 2.30 am - > rent 4 WD from cemero Lawang to take us to Mount Pananjakan in around 30 mins, to get in time for the sunrise at 5 am & to Mount Bromo -> return. Ok , so we aren't trekkers in the traditional sense, actually in no sense whatsoever! But we were very keen to witness the sunrise at these volcanoes, an iconic panaromic image of Indonesia. Een uurtje rijden van Ubud moesten we de bus nemen richting Java, met bestemming Probolingo. Een koppel sprak ons onmiddelijk aan dat we in hun winkeltje een ticket konden kopen naar Java. We besloten eerst de andere busstandjes af te lopen en uiteindelijk kwam hun prijs het goedkoopste uit. Ze beloofden ons , zoals op hun flyer dat het een 1e klas bus was met toilet etc. We kochten ons ticket voor 110.000 per persoon (8 uur lang bus en 1/2 uur ferry) toen we de bus zagen wisten we direct hoe laat het was...de flyer was waarschijnlijk 20 jaar oud en we kwamen recht naast de WC terecht. Deze morgen stonden we om 3 uur op en 5 minuten later al bibberend in de koude. Met de hoofdlamp gingen we het Tengger Nationaal Park binnen in het pikdonker. Waarom dat we zo vroeg opstonden? Volgens de LP (Lonely Planet reisgids) is het opkomen van de zon op de Bromo vulkaan één van dé trekpleisters van Indonesië, en is het prachtig. Een halfuurtje later stonden we tenmidden in de lava-zand woestijn op zoek naar de paaltjes. In het begin liepen we de verkeerde kant uit en gelukkig kwamen er zo'n 30 jeeps (geboekte tours) af die met hun koplampen de weg uitstippelden voor ons. Oef we zagen de paaltjes! Een goeie km van de vulkaan verwijdert vonden we geen paaltjes meer en waren er geen jeeps meer gepasseerd. Het was pikdonker en wij stonden daar ... read more

JAVA: Bromo Jeep Club. Up at 3.30am...no time for a shower to wake up...into thermals, wet weather gear, head torches, cameras, video, boots...check... meet Fandi our Guide at 4am...jeep ready...time to head off for the photo opportunity we have come so far to see...the Penanjakan Sunrise. The Dutch saw nothing at sunrise yesterday...clouded in then and raining...will we be lucky today? To travel anywhere in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park...the home of five volcanoes and the Tengger people...you can walk...which if you are travelling distance is silly...or promote the local Tengger economy...and travel by jeep...known in these parts as...the Bromo Jeep Club. BLUE GRASS IN BROMO: New Year 2012. We are in the restaurant at the Lava View Lodge overlooking the nest of volcanoes in the Tengger caldera below...four nights booked..."noone stays that long" they say..."most come to see the sunrise and then go". "We prefer it to traffic"...is my simple response. Who wants to sit in heavy traffic in cities...if you can enjoy this view?...which as it's wet season...is constantly changing . But the reality is we love every minute of it...would stay longer if we had the time...hoping four nights is enough to satisfy our souls...and remain etched in our memories. We toured, discovered and got into the many sights Bromo had to offer (see next blog)...fantastic...but probably our best times were partying with the locals...at night...with "Blue Grass"...while others probably sleep for want of anything ... read more
