**The map decided to relocate 2 of my points from Chengdu and Sapa to somewhere in Africa. It took me over an hour to draw and it won't let me edit. (Goddam you google). Please excuse these errors. I hope to update in the future** So this is it. The final blog from Asia. I am sat in Kuta waiting to fly out of Asia into a whole new continent. Australia. Land of kangaroo's, digeridoo's, surfing and sunblock. But that is all in the future. For the last few days we have been travelling around Nothern Bali having got the ferry back from Lombok. The first stop was Ubud in the central mountains. Ubud is known for the arts and crafts produced in the area. It is not particularly touristy but pleasant enough. We only had ... read more

Where to begin? I left home both with and without a plan. Both excited and scared. Excited to see new places, meet new people, have new experiences and at the same time scared of the unknown. What would I find on the road? How would I react to the unknown? Could I deal with adversity, the unexpected? How would people perceive me? What would they think of me? How would I perceive them? The decision to travel was an easy one. I wasn't happy with my life. There are many reasons for this, a feeling of stagnation, of being stuck, stuck in a lease, stuck in a job. I guess the best way to describe this would be stuck in a rut. I said the decision to travel was an easy one, but that was mostly ... read more

Ok not a long one this time. We´re actually in Mendoza, Argentina at the moment having spent a month in New Zealand and a few days in Sydney. To save you having to read too much here´s some photos of the Gillies (Trawangan and Air) Islands of Lombok, Indonesia and Bali. Actually Gilli Air means Water Island - not sure how that works. The other people in the photos are my family, my brother and his girlfriend and the old dears - can you guess which is which though? Enough to say we had a really good laugh with them, the Gillies (the Islands) are paradise and very cheap and Bali is very different to the rest of Indonesia but still awesome. My Mum was bitten by a monkey too.... read more

The last few days in Ubud we spent walking around the local villages and checking out a traditional Balinese Kecak Dance. The Kecak is a dramatization of an ancient hindu story and features fire walking and young women performing dances while in a trance. It was pretty interesting. While exploring the villages we walked through rice paddies and terraces while pondering who decided to bury grass in stagnant mud and then eat it in the first place. By the looks of the paddies I am not sure that would have crossed my mind. We also walked through the temple in Ubud where somebody let us go back into the royal family's courtyard. After 4 days inland we were thirsting for some waves but seeing some of the heavier breaks in the south we decided to head ... read more

Sorry for the late addition of this blog but the site lost the entry I had written, before I could publish it so I have sort of put together a very brief overview below. After landing in Bali I moved down to Kuta the main tourist/ backpacker area. I stayed there for about four days and rented myself a surfboard and tried to get in some more practice in the water. Kuta was nice but too touristy for my liking and most of the people were Australians on holiday so a lot of drinking was to be had, I suddenly realized how out of practice I am on the drinking front. After wearing two small holes at the bottom of my ribcage from the rubbing on the surfboard I decided to move on to the Gillis ... read more

Hi from Bali. Arrived here from Borneo, via Kuala Lumpur, last week. Headed straight for Kuta, probably the most famous tourist area in Bali. Realising we only had 9 days we wasted no time in organising some day tours of the island. So the next morning up we got and joined our guide for a temple and sunset tour. Our guide was called “Aldo”, and he turned out to be really fun and friendly. Once I realised his English was good, I bored him to death with question after question about the island and its culture. The Day tour took us to a few temples and sights around the island. Being honest, most of these were just “fillers” before the main event, a visit to Tanah Lot Temple on the south coast. The Temple is built ... read more

Leaving Australia was bittersweet. We were sad to see it go but excited as hell for a new adventure. Our flight from Perth to Bali was only 3 hours and was nice because of the free alcohol and the friendly Australian couple sitting next to us giving us advice. Arriving in Bali's airport was interesting in that we thought we had walked into an Asian restaurant. There was an overwhelming smell of incense and a plethora of Hindu figurines. Before we could really figure things out we were mobbed by a horde of taxi drivers yelling, "Transport!" Instead of stressing out we just hopped in a taxi and said, "Take us to Kuta beach." We figured even if we get charged a little too much it's only a matter of a buck or two. Speaking of ... read more

**Sorry. No photos today. The computer is misbehaving** And so we arrive on the last leg of the South East Asia trip. Three weeks beckon in Indonesia, mainly on Bali with a side trip to Lombok thrown in for good measure. We arrived at the airport in the middle of the night, so were pretty much at the mercy of the taxi drivers. 1 night in an expensive dump was enough so we set off to Kuta, the Aussie equivalent of Ibiza. Kuta is pretty much what you would imagine if Ibiza was full of Aussies rather than Brits. They are up early to surf, they wander around the town in singlet tops, they go to bars and get very excited when Down Under by Men at Work comes on the jukebox (and it does - ... read more
