Day 254 to Day 276 (09.09.07 - 21.09.07) Leaving Australia behind was a little sad, but actually we were ready for it, as money was running out and it was quite crippling to stay any longer on a backpacker budget, with all the expensive trips we did, all totally worth it of course, but we were soo looking forward to the rather more cheap Asia. South East Asia would be our third contient on this trip, and a refreshing change in culture and style after a few months in Australasia. Starting at the bottom just across the gulf between Australia and Asia, we would make our way up through Asia, starting logically in Indonesia. The Indonesian Archipelago The Indonesian archipelago, stretches more than 50000km, and a voyage through the 17,508 islands would be an epic experience ... read more

...is what I was singing along with as I jumped around in the Indonesian equivalent of a mosh pit with scores of pre-pubsecent Indonesian boys (and a few westerners!) on Kuta Beach, Bali, and for just over 2 weeks I fell in love with the paradise that is Indonesia (cheesy but true!). Forget buckets on the beach and the tuk tuks of Thailand, its all about Indonesia. Ignore the bird flu and claims of militant extremism and just come!I flew into Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, from Sydney, glad to be finally off on my travels again. As soon as I got out of the airport the smells and sights of Asia seemed to hit me, as familiar as Mum's cooking. It was good to be back. Ubud is quite large by Bali standards - ... read more

So for our final 10 days it was off to Candi Dasa, a small village on the East coast of Bali. We had booked ahead after it was so busy in Ubud but actually changed places once we had looked around the village and found somewhere that was right by the sea, had better facilities and was cheaper!! We hadn't really planned on doing too much during our time here but lie in the sun and swim in the pool but as things turned out we ended up doing quite a few things. We astarted off with a couple of days in the sun but I was soon tempted into going on a fishing trip!! I have never fished in my life before but an Australian guy called Jim was keen to go out with the ... read more

hello my lovely dedicated readers (aka mum and dad). hope you are all well and enjoying the sun i am sure is shining oh so brightly at home. i am currently in wales, and the sun does not seem so intent on shining here. it's odd sort of weather really - it has not yet rained, yet the sky is stuck in an endless sulk, content to remain grey and cloudy in a sure-fire attempt to suck the soul out of anyone not totally accustomed to shitty weather. haha. nah, it's not that bad, i'm getting used to it really. but last night joe and tom (some friends i met when they were backpacking around australia) decided to have a party in the backyard, which was about 2 degrees. i have to give them credit, british ... read more

It all started three years ago. One year away from graduation, no career-path in mind, and the audacity to dream outside of the box. Neither my best friend, Blake nor I wanted to jump into the rat race head first like many of our young and motivated college mates. Blake and I much preferred diving head first into dreams of waves bigger than we can handle in places far enough away to only be known as pictures on maps. And that's precisely what Bali, Indonesia was to us - just a picture on a map, half a world away. And that only made the dream more enticing for us. We contemplated the possibility of moving to Indonesia, picking up any easy job (maybe waiting tables) and surfing as much as possible. It was a true surfers ... read more
