Bula, Bula from Fiji. Arrived at Nadi airport and got greeted by our guesthouse manager, Mark, who offered us a taster of the great attitude and fun character we later came to expect from the Fijian people. Our Guest house was basic but decent enough for catching some sleep. Spent the following day exploring Nadi town centre and the beach. Would be a severe stretch of the imagination to say it is a premium beach! Decided to head over to Suva city for a couple of days, which turned out to be harder to achieve than expected. After much haggling and hassles we managed to negotiate a taxi ride, which was bizzare becuase the driver randomly picked up other passengers on the way! 4 hours (and 5 passengers) later we arrived at the Raintree Lodge in ... read more

Kia Ora and Welcome to the final chapter of our New Zealand adventure. After a mind numbing drive, we arrived at Dunedin and for once quickly found our Accomodation. That night consisted of a quick dinner then me falling soundly asleep very early. Awoke to Lucy issuing the days itinery to me (as I'd fell asleep whilst discussing it previously). So off we went to the town, with our first stop being "The Worlds Steepest Street"! It's Called Baldwin Street, which we found ironically "normal" for a world record holder! It's probably one of those things that wouldn't impress most of you, but its kind of amazing when you're actually there. Apparently it has an average gradient of 1 in 2.86 (35 degrees), or "Mucho Steepo" in simple terms! It's a bit of a common challenge ... read more

Hello from the South Island of New Zealand. Last left you after arriving into Picton, where we spent one night before heading steadily southwards. Had precious few daylight hours in Picton, which we used up with a long walk around the town and surrounding hills. The guy at our guesthouse offered to let us walk his little Scottie dog. Lucy excitidly agreed, while I rolled my eyes!! We dam near exhausted the poor thing, with a massive trek around the bays of picton. Spent most of the night trying to convince Lucy that a "ickle doggy" would not be a good idea when we got home! Left Picton the next morning, bound for the marine paridise of Kaikoura. As we headed south, the scenery just got better and better and better. On the road into Kaikoura ... read more

Kia Ora! After a "wonderful" 24 hour journey from Singapore, including a sleepover at Brisbane Airport. Can't say it the greatest nights sleep of our lives, but it was kinda cool to have almost an entire airport lounge to oursleves. We arrived into Auckland full of the joys of Spring, which were quickly dampened by the chills of New Zealand Winter!! I boarded the plane in Singapore wearing shorts and a T-Shirt, a decision I immediately regreted once we hit fresh (I mean fresh!) air. Headed over to the car rental desk and managed to obtain a funky little Toyato Yaris. We spluttered, kangarood and stalled our way to Auckland within 2 1/2 hours. This would be good if Auckland city centre wasn't just 20 minutes (max) away!! On the bright side, we got to see ... read more

Hello from Singapore!! After dragging ourselves away from the Gilli Islands (we were considering staying and setting up a business selling pineapples on the beach), we arrived in Singapore late on Friday afternoon. We quickly checked into our hotel, spruced ourselves up, put on our glad rags, and headed to the famous Raffles Hotel for cocktails. You aren’t allowed to wear sandals or flip-flops at the hotel and so, for the first time in the four months, my high heels had to come out of the rucksack. I must admit we both scrubbed up pretty well. Although, I didn’t look as sophisticated when I tried to walk in my shoes! Our “backpacker budget” didn’t quite stretch to dinner at Raffles so we went to a nearby food court where you could pick and choose between a ... read more

Hi from Bali. Arrived here from Borneo, via Kuala Lumpur, last week. Headed straight for Kuta, probably the most famous tourist area in Bali. Realising we only had 9 days we wasted no time in organising some day tours of the island. So the next morning up we got and joined our guide for a temple and sunset tour. Our guide was called “Aldo”, and he turned out to be really fun and friendly. Once I realised his English was good, I bored him to death with question after question about the island and its culture. The Day tour took us to a few temples and sights around the island. Being honest, most of these were just “fillers” before the main event, a visit to Tanah Lot Temple on the south coast. The Temple is built ... read more

Hey Everyone Welcome to our adventures in Borneo!! When we last left you I was getting very excited about our trip over to Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. After a plane trip over from Kuala Lumpur, we arrived in Sandakan which was going to be our base for the next 6 days. Sandakan isn’t exactly the prettiest places we have been, in fact if you didn’t know about all the amazing things that lay on its doorstep you’d probably be on the first plane out of there. After planning everything that we were going to cram into our short trip we grabbed a quick bite at a “bistro restaurant at the harbour side”, which turned out to be a café with plastic chairs on the quay of a diesel fumed port, before hitting the hay in order ... read more

Hi all. Just a quick word here from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We left Koh Phangan early Sunday morning, hoping to arrive here the following morning on an overnight bus. However, we experienced our first transport disaster when we missed our connecting bus (Dont ask!) from the Thai border. As there were no other buses leaving that day, we had to spend a night at the nondescript Border town of HatYai. Next morning we woke bright and early and caught the Bus to Kuala Lumpur; arrived at around 8pm. After grabbing some dinner, we spent the first night around the famous Petronas Twin Towers. Apparently, these were the worlds highest skyscrapers until about 3 years ago (Think Tapei took the mantle) and they are massive. At night both towers are illuminated by thousands of lights, making for ... read more

Before I start, I just want to apologise to our mothers for the amount of drunken behaviour contained within this Episode. We would like to assure them that this is totally out of character, and was mainly influenced by the intrinsic party atmosphere here on the Thai Islands. We promise to improve our behaviour in future weeks. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hello again folks. Just another quick word from Southern Thailand. Since the last update, we've moved on to the East coast islands, where our ubiquitous Lazyness has continued!! Took a long boat and land journey across Thailand, finally arriving in Koh Samui. Although much more commercialised than Phi Phi, Samui has it's own charm and is one of those places that just seems to eat up your time without you knowing it. In spite of overcast weather (yeah ... read more

Howdy folks, Since our last update, we have headed to southern Thailand and began our much anticipated island hopping phase! Arrived at a small, sea-side, town called Ao Nang last weekend and used it as a base for island tours along the andaman coast. Visted pretty much every island worth seeing, Kayaking, snorkling and swimming along the way. Then We took a boat to Phi Phi Island (so good they named it twice!!) and have been here ever since, soaking up the sun and generally perfecting our lazyness skills. We had some rain early in the week (not as much as back home!), but the weather has really picked up now - so much so that my face is back to its usual shade of red!! My legs are kinda Brown, my middle is still white ... read more
