Round the world in 6

Pekrul Bros

We are two brothers from Southern California who decided that the time was right to get some serious traveling done. After taking a trip to Fiji in 2006 and meeting some cool people on an around the world trip, we decided we should do the same. So we came back home and started saving. We are two open minded guys, with laid back personalities looking for a little adventure.

After a marathon of a day we finally landed in London. The first full day we figured out how to use "The Tube" and went to hit some of the major sites which included: watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, checking out Big Ben and Westminster Abbey as well as getting inside Parliament to watch a little of the debates. Actually we just wanted to see if they really wore powdered wigs...and yes they do, it was pretty funny. It was boring though. While in London we had a list of things that we had to do and foods we had to try, so we decided to find a local pub to sample a few pints of some real cask ale. It is really crazy because real ale actually has very little carbonation ... read more

We finally made it into San Sebastian after the situation from hell in France. Stinky and sleepless, buzzing off a double espresso we talked about the funny situation that happened the night before. San Sebastian, a spanish beach town, was freezing. Not as cold as Switzerland or parts of Germany but it was up there. We didn't have any expectations for it since we didn't originally plan on going there. We found it to be a laid back town with a lot of cool stuff to offer though. We spent time walking around the beach looking for surf and found some, but it was small and the water was like 40 degrees. We walked up to a hill and took some cool panoramics of the city for the blog. Getting around Spain was a lot easier ... read more

Italy was a cool place, but we were excited to see our friend Pia and check out some cool mountain towns. We ended up in Lucerne which is a chilled out Swiss town and were utterly shocked when we walked out of the train station and saw snow on the ground...in THE ALPS? Huh, who´d have thought? We were told that snow was expected everyday we were there so we were thinking of heading to the local mountains to catch a bit of boarding. We found out that since it was still considered between seasons, Engelberg was basically closed for maintenance. The majority of the time was spent walking around in the freezing weather, it was -12 C. We met a group of cool Aussies that had been working on a luxurious super yacht in the ... read more

After getting on the train to Rome, we decided that we wanted to stay in a smaller town so we caught a second train from Naples to the coastal town of Sorrento. It was a cool little town that was set on the cliffs overlooking the ocean and sort of reminded us of downtown La Jolla. It served as a great base for exploring the ruins of Pompeii. The ruins were a lot bigger than we had thought and, apparently, only a small portion of them have been fully excavated. We spent a few hours walking around and it was enough time to see most of the main sights, but you could definitely spend an entire day there checking everything out. It was really eerie walking through the streets knowing that this is where hundredes of ... read more

We begin this story at the train station in Vienna, where we are waiting for our night train to Venice. Ryan glances at his watch and sees we have a few minutes before the train leaves so Russ runs to pick some things up at the store. While Russ is out Ryan sees a light blinking next to their train and realizes his watch is 5 minutes slow. Loaded up with what feels like 100 pounds of baggage we gallop through the train station (try to run while giving someone a piggy back and you'll know what we are talking about) and push our way past a conductor who we think was trying to tell us it was too late. We got into the last train car and the train began moving 45 seconds after we ... read more

We were tossing around the idea of going to Prague, but couldn't figure out what exactly was drawing us there. Since we were meeting up with our friend in 3 weeks we decided to hit up Munich, home of Oktoberfest. Unfortunately, we were a little late for that. While staying at our first hostel we met a few Italian girls from Milan and decided to head to the Hofbräuhaus to get a few litres of beer and some sausage. After hitting the beer house we decided to split since the girls were getting up early and we were ready to tear up the town. We headed to this place called KultFabrik, which is basically a huge complex of warehouses with like 50 bars and nightclubs in it. Once we found the place we instantly were disappointed ... read more

We showed up in Berlin, which seemed like a huge city on a map, not knowing where the hell we were going to stay. Luckily, after jumping on and off trains we wandered into a pretty cool hostel. It actually turned out to be one of the nicest places we have stayed in...down pillows, duvets...let's just say it was pretty high class when compared to a bamboo mat. The next day we hunted out some coffee to keep us warm, since it was the coldest place we have been, and headed out to check out the sights. Little did we know, the city is pretty massive so most of the day was spent walking around aimlessly, not sure what we were looking at, while freezing our asses off. We opted to take one of the city ... read more

Well, this will be a very short entry seeing as our stay was only a few days. "Experiencing" Amsterdam was nothing short of an adventure. We spent a lot of time just walking down the freezing cold streets checking things out. After being in Asia we have become quite numb to things that would have ordinarily shocked us, but, it was still was bizarre to see beautiful, half-naked women beckoning us from red rooms in almost every building we walked by. Oh yes and going to a "coffee shop" was an interesting experience as well. It isn't everyday you see shops that advertise the types of mushrooms they sell and see people the age of your parents ripping bongloads next to you while sipping their morning java. Even some old ladies were toking it up and ... read more

Our European adventures have begun and our first stop is Paris. We arrived exhausted and confused from our 24 hour journey from the land of Thai. Not really knowing the day or the time we wanted nothing else than to drop our bags off somewhere, anywhere. It literally could have been anywhere and it would have been nicer than most of the places we had been in for the past few months...aahhh the western world. That first night we cruised down to the Eiffel tower and walked around the town to get a feel for it. The weather was overcast and much colder than Thailand...we were loving it. Paris is such a beautiful place. Although we expected a lot more people to speak english... Our second day we did some shopping and headed down towards Champs' ... read more

We are just about at the finish line for our South East Asian adventures and it's been a really interesting experience. After the rendezvous in Bangkok with the guys we headed north to Chang Mai. Here we started gathering essentials for our journey to the lands of Europe and christmas gifts for the family seeing as we will be broke when we get home. This town was supposed to be relaxed and chilled out and it was.....until.....some punk ass jacked Russ's camera. Yeah it blew....we had just picked up some laundry and were walking back to our guesthouse, one hand was full of laundry and the other with his camera and planner where he kept all his important things. We were only about 60 ft. from our guesthouse when these two teenage guys pulled up behind ... read more
