Hi everyone! Yes, we are still alive. And still on the beach....... I think we may be able to pull ourselves away after this weekend. It's time to head north and see the "real" India. We've been having a great time in Goa. Have been living in luxury on the beach doing a lot of nothing and hanging with great people. As a result, we haven't really been too inspired to sit at a computer for a couple hours in a non-air conditioned internet cafe with a not-too-quick internet connection. We had a fabulous time in the ancient town of Hampi. Hampi is famous for its ruins dating back to the 1400's, and for its geology. It felt like we were living in Bedrock. Well after the epic adventure that was Mount Everest we decided that we had earned some serious beach time so we arranged to leave Nepal behind and head back towards India but this time heading south - destination Goa. Little did we know that this was also the main destination for every other brit on tour as well. After a quick flight to Delhi International Airport we then transferred to the domestic terminal which was only about 7Km away but as the staff at the international terminal think that this is your first time to India they try and rip you off with asking for big tips and making you think your going to miss your connection - I don’t think so pal - not this time. Anyway we made our connection and landed in Goa ... read more

Hello agian everyone, firstly, thanks to those of you who have left a message, it's nice to hear from you. After a few days in Singapore (without any luggage), I flew to Mumbai. Met up with John (my brother) no problems. Mumbai is a crazy, crazy place! The state of the city is out of this world, and not really in a good way. Very dirty and very busy. Had a wonder on Chowpatty beach good experience, a little more lively than Redcar. Took a 12 hour train journey to Goa, staying in the North (for those of you who know it, Anjuna). It is nice here, the hotel is fantastic and it's enought out of the way of the main tourist beach. It is very chilled out. Everybody wants to sell you something. I wasn't ... read more

The much anticipated experience of the very promoted market happened today. The Flea Market at Anjuna happens only on Wednesday..... every tourist of every description in every unspeakable form of dress and behavior was at the market. And every hawker times 10 was pushing the wares: bags, scarves, hannocks, bed covers, sarongs, jewellery, carved "marble?', mirrored skirts, side vented wrap around pants, fancy embroidered sort of quilted looking covers, pillow cases, shoes, sandles, incense, chess sets, round cloth lanterns for the patio, endless bangles, plastic posing as coral, alloy posing as silver, t-shirts, cotton shirts, skirts of every hue abd length ... and that is just the stuff I remember or walked past. I did not pass every stall! I did not loook at all the goods! The biggest challenge was getting from one end of ... read more

As we settle into our third location in India, we are beginning to develop some routines. It has taken a bit of time to establish a workable system for the website but we just might be getting there. Our current routine is to check into a cyber cafe (known in Canada as internet cafes) after we have completed our plans for the day. I check out and handle any email we may have received, confirm accomodations, etc, on one computer and Vernon composes his notes on another. Now that I have mastered posting pictures I will be trying to get snapshots on the website as close to Vernon's dairy notes as I can. Today I will be posting some pictures which should accompany the text Vernon sent for January 18th. Once these go up, I will ... read more

Today began with a walk-around in the town of Panaji, doing chores of the day;and in the process interacting with the townfolk: buying cashew nuts from a vendor in one of those lean-to stalls, cashew is one of the mainstay crops here;getting help from a camera store to put Penny's memory stick back into her camera;purchasing envelopes, a stapler and rubber bands; and asking directions to the bus station. Today, our bustrip was to Anjuna, with a change in bus at Mapusa, to visit a flea market above a beach. Pretty routine up to Mapusa, whereupon life took a turn for the hectic when we walked up to the conductor of the bus to Anjuna. His bus was already full but he decided to squeeze us in, as a favour, I guess, to visitors. All confusion ... read more

We left on our luxury sleeper bus from Hospet.. this time it wasnt so bad. We actually had a bed and a curtain, and some chocolate (just what every girl needs in a crisis!). Went to sleep in Karnataka and woke up in Goa, my favourite type of journey. We went to meet my friend, Gill in her swanky hotel in Anjuna. She was staying in luxury compared to us (and paying about 10x as much!) The beach in Anjuna was lovely. We had heard of a 'party' happening at the end of the beach-so went and took a look. It was the most surreal place, ever! Obviously full of people left over from the 60s, still on acid and having a great time. Its home to anyone with a bad hair cut and a thong, ... read more

Hi, Goa is very much different from north India, not only by its appearance but also by its people. It is a very small state, tropical, coconuts, banana trees, etc. Is seems to be quite reach as well, probably due to many tourists. The Indians people there are used to see women with short clothes so no problem to wear like this. The Indian ocean is quite filthy, much more then our Mediterranean sea but I don't care and swim. It is also relatively clean, roads are quite good. Main transport method is motorcycles. In my guest house I am probably the only one that does not smoke, not cigarettes, nor grass. There is one group of Indians that are realy mastul. They smoke all day (grass), from dawn till sunset, hear trans music and move ... read more

Hey! well - I left off all excited about a big clubbing night I was gonna have on Wednesday night...! The club, 'Club Cobana' WAS amazing. It was on top of a hill overlooking Goa - it was on many levels, with mirrors everywhere. There was a pool, lounge chairs like in posh UK clubs, and free massages. The atmosphere was very...rich. The start of the night was amazing - we met up with some friends, and drank a few drinks and chatted about what a great venue it was. Then we all decided to go dance a bit...and if any of you have been out dancing with me, you'll know how much I love it! They had good music, and a lively crowd, and I was definitely in my element.....until about 1 in the morning. ... read more

I left off when we first arrived in Goa - now Jamie and I have been here for four days, and it's been really great! It's very relaxing and peaceful after the north of India! The past two days we've been renting out a scooter and driving around all the beaches in Goa. It's a great way to see everything - there's a bunch of small towns and remote beaches that would be inaccessible without the bike! We've visited most coastal towns in North Goa - we both agree that Baja might be the best choice for our next stop, there seems to be more things going on there, and we've heard it's a good place to meet other travellers! Yesterday while we were on the bike, trying to go check out Old Goa, all of ... read more
