I have had a very difficult last couple of weeks. It started with Adam leaving. It was really hard for me to have him here and then gone..and it seems like SO long until we see each other again. I know it will go fast but it was kind of like I had to start over again. I am/was also dealing with the fact that my best friend here was leaving on march 1. The weather has also been quite dreary. At times...the same temperature as valpo! Something changed this past weekend though. First of all...Jackie, my best friend here, is staying until June! That is probably the main thing that changed. But also...I have started to find my alone time and independence refreshing again. I went to the st Matthew passion a couple nights ... read more

I know it has been awhile since I have written anything here. I have been very busy! We just celebrated our Chinese New Year here and Adam came to visit me. He was here for 12 days or so. We had a wonderful time together. It was just so nice to have him here so he could see what my life has looked like for the last 7 months or so. We did some touristy things and had some nice dinners- the weather was great so we got to go on a hike together, one that we were not really prepared for. It also turned out that I was in better shape than he was.....maybe just for these 2 weeks of our lives, but still! I crushed him. ;) I attached most of the pictures from ... read more

I am surprised to say that the title of the post is somewhat true! Besides the weather that I am USED to experiencing at this time of year (we have dropped to somewhere in the 50s-60s here, watch out...cold front!) Christmas has really exploded all around me. All of the malls have quite elaborate Christmas displays, and our school puts out a tree and decorates with lights. There are carolers and shoppers and all around good cheer. There has also been a lot going on to help get me in the holiday spirit. We have had two Holiday Shares, one with Grade 1 and one with Grade 2. Both of these went very well and there is a DVD to come! Let me know if you are interested in watching. ;) We also had our Community ... read more

Whew! Where does the time go? It is Thanksgiving here in Hong Kong- a holiday that no one else really celebrates :). We celebrate at my school (although not with a day off...). There are feasts and assemblies and caring and sharing, etc. It has really been a lovely day so far- if not just a little bit nuts! I have several Thanksgiving dinners planned for this weekend- 3 to be exact. Thursday, Friday AND Saturday. I will most likely be in a food coma by the end of the weekend. And my friend Jackie just asked me to run a 10K with her on Sunday.....do you think I will be able to move?? On this day of thanks...I am finding myself thankful for many things in my life. The first thing I am thankful for ... read more

Two entries in a week....lucky you! ;) Halloween is a holiday that I never really thought I would miss...but this past Sunday I found myself feeling very homesick. I wanted to be there to see kids trick or treating. I wanted to dress up in a silly costume. I wanted to watch a scary movie with Adam. Getting into this holiday season just makes me more and more glad that I decided to come home for Christmas. If I felt this way about Halloween, I can't even imagine how I would have felt being here at Christmas...Adam or no Adam :). In an effort to entertain myself on Halloween, I went with a couple of friends to Hong Kong's amusement park- Ocean Park. It was definitely a fun day- we rode roller coasters, ate park food, ... read more

On 8th October 2010 Georgia turned three years old. Georgia may not fully understand the concept of birthdays yet, but she seems to have a feminine ability to understand and exploit their implications. For weeks Georgia had linked the amorphous notion of a birthday with another visit to Disneyland, and she used with skill the moral leverage of her birthday over her parents. But before Disneyland there was the ritual opening of birthday cards while lounging on the bed. We read them to Georgia, and she smiled and admired the pictures, while Byron waited on the sidelines for a chance to test how tear-resistant they are. Downstairs, Georgia got her first sight of the array of presents people have kindly sent her. Presents were certainly a concept Georgia understood, and she took to the task of ... read more

It has been awhile since I last posted! I hope I have not kept you all waiting.... ;) Well. To be honest, this last week or so has been very busy and filled with a lot of ups and downs. The main thing to report is that my dad came to visit!! He came the 21-27, a short trip, but still very enjoyable. We had a GREAT time. We got to hang out, do some fun Hong Kong/China things, and just enjoy each other's company. Almost all of the pictures posted are from our little trip. You can look through and learn more about our adventures. They included: a trip to the horse races, trip to the gambling capital of the world, Macau, and some celebrating of the Mid Autumn Festival. After my dad left on ... read more

A wonderful thing happened yesterday. The rain that we had here ALL weekend drove out all the haze and smog. It made the air so clean and crisp it almost felt like fall. When I looked out my apartment window I could see the islands way out in the ocean. The sky was blue and the water was bright. It was really very magical. I have been quite contemplative lately. I think it has a lot to do with me being alone. I spend a lot of my time just thinking. I have been thinking about God and religion, about people, and about where my life is headed. These are the kinds of questions I was hoping I would ask myself while I was here (and even possibly find an answer!) I guess I have been ... read more

I have a new family at home! 2 new little kitties to keep me company. We have just had a lovely weekend together so far. They are very playful and they are starting to be cuddly with me. I think we will be great friends. It is so nice to have other living creatures in this place! I don't have too much else to say at the moment. Lazy saturday with Desperate Housewives, wedding plans, and new kittens. Tomorrow I am going to church at the HKIS church- it is Education Sunday and the high school choir is singing. Then I have dinner plans with a new friend. I'll write more later. For now, here are some photos/videos of my new family! ... read more
