Our bus to Songpan turned out to actually be a bus to Jiuzhaigou (a famous national park) and we were the only 2 people on it not going all the way through to the end. This may have been why the driver decided not to stop at Songpan bus station, which we only realised when a kind soul pointed out we'd gone through Songpan and out the other side. The subsequent burst of Mandarin from the driver carried the implication that we should have told him to stop, however that seemed a little unreasonable as this was our first time in Songpan hence we had no clue where the bus station was - not to mention the fact that a more common criticism of Chinese buses is that they stop at too many places rather than ... read more

After the laborious trek through the tiger leaping gorge on two legs, we decided that four legs was the way to go, and that's how we ended up trekking through the mountains north of songpan on horses. Not just any old horses though, but esp enabled horses, horses that responded only to the thoughts of their masters. It didn't matter if there was a car bearing down on us in the middle of the road and I gave a tentative (ie life -or -death tug) on the reins to get my four legged friend to move to the side, he, or she, (we never got that far) would not budge. Until that is a random message came down the telepathic lines of communication from the guide and my horsey trotted obediently to the side, and ... read more

Current mood: Tired but happy Up, Breakfast, saddled and back on the road leaving the camp set up for our return from ice mountain. Well each day is different on my horse...! some days i feel like a cowboy and others i feel like the Incredible hulk riding My Little Pony (well off balance)...... Well today i was like a Green Muscle Man on a pink pretty horse! Gonzarlise (because he aint speedy) is what i named my pony! the ride was a difficult one, being quite a steep climb balancing on cliff edges for nearly four hours! the ride was difficult but worth the views when we eventually reached our destination! The ICE MOUNTAIN...... when we reach our final point is still in the distance as we are not really prepared for that type of ... read more

Current mood: mind blown The morning arrives and we are still unsure of our days plans. So with no further adoo and a squat attempt in the woods we i saddle up and head out with the guys towards an unknown destination! The day turned out to be surreal and up there with the Great Wall. Riding for around 2-3 hours we pass through various set ups that i would think rersemble parts of the wild wild west! i didnt get to snap happy as my now very favoured friend (Ashley, love her dearly) who is an accomplished rider and has a ranch back in the states , is thrown off her horse whilst taking snaps. it shit me up to be honest but shes a professional. she stood up, dusted off and jumped back on! ... read more

Current mood: Its wicked. So its going well so far, even tho the digs were freezing in songpan town. but after another cheaky TETLEYS (cheers hunny) and a wicked hot shower im up and on my way to the cafe for Banana and Hunny pancakes! 20 minutes go by and all full up, im standing outside looking up at the surrounding hills and mountains!!! then the horses arrive and im in awe from the saddle! The day begins and we are on route for a four day trek. The hills are cold in the morning and after four hours of riding we are setting up camp in a secluded valley with an ice cold stream/river running by! Day one consists of chilling out around the fire eating and drinking all singing and chatting about random stuff ... read more
