It's been over a week in Cambodia. And it has been all good, hot and tiring, but still good. The pace of Cambodia is slow as with most countries similar to Cambodia. Plans happen 30 minutes after they are scheduled, dinner takes on average 45-60 minutes once you order regardless of who else is in the resturaunt, conversations last and linger....all of it is good. most of my days have followed a pattern of volunteering in the morning, napping in the sweltering afternoon, teaching english in the early evening with good conversation, many bike rides and great icecream squeezed inbetween. But now my official volunteering has ended, but the good converations and icecream continue. On Sunday, our first official day off. jacinta, lorriane, annabelle (another volunteer we met) took our bikes for a ride to some ... read more

so we have just spent the last couple of days looking at temples... wow, and boy are there alot of temples at Angkor Wat... you might be under the impression that Angkor Wat, is just that one, massive, amazing temple... and yes it is, but there are so many more around Angkor. Anyway, after 2 full days of looking at them, we were pretty templed out! But impressed... so we have added a few photos for your viewing pleasure. We went to the temple where Tomb Raider (Angelina Jollie loves Cambodia hey)...was filmed, so jess and i ran around pretending to be her, ducking here and there, running in and out... so cool. We then spent a day playing at the Siem Reap Markets, practicing our bargaining skills and doing pretty good we thought. jess brought ... read more

After spending Christmas with Garry's brother Carl and family in Perth, we caught our flight to Bangkok where we spent one night before catching a bus and boat to join Big Al, our friend from Arsenal, on the island of Koh Samet to celebrate New Year. We initially went for three nights but found ourselves there five nights later, broken people. I had been in my element as there loads of lady-boys from Bangkok had come to the island for the weekend so I had plenty of dance partners while Garry & Al propped up the bar trying to figure out the girls from the guys. The New Year came in with a bang in more ways than one as the police came to break up a disturbance with gun fire which completely drove us all ... read more

Hi! Arriving in Siem Reap was very annoying. Taking a 5USD bus was ok until we reached Siem Reap. We thought something is wrong, when they told us free tuktuk to our hostel. Anyway, we took it. After 1 km, in the middle of nowhere, he stopped and sad in a very angry tone. "I need work tomorrow. For 15 dollar i will be your driver". It ended up in bad words, we called him a liar, he said "get out, i am no liar". Finally we gave him 1 dollar and said we never want to see him again. After that, our pre-booked hostel sent us to another place, as the "were full". The other place was full of mosquitos and by far not as good as the first. Another quarrel. we left. finally, WE ... read more

We arrive in Siem Reap after a long, dusty day haggling for taxis and sneaking around at the border to try and get cheaper transport. In the end we managed to get a cab with two Swedish guys. The journey was hell on the worst road in the world. Jocke and Jhamfoy stayed at the same hostel as us in Siem Reap so we got into some of the local brew and sampled the best of Northern Cambodian nightlife. Our room was so cheap, it even came with a shared bathroom that doubled as a mosquitoes nest. We started our Cambodian education with a trip to the land-mine museum that a local fella has set up to raise funds for de-mining the countryside. Amazing stuff- and great to see someone getting it done without fuss. In ... read more

Hi there and a happy belated new year to you all! It's been a busy couple of weeks since my last update so I will just get cracking on... We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on the eve of New Years Eve about 2 hours late which is fairly unusual as we have been lucky so far and generally have arrived at our destinations early or on time. In the usual tradition we plonked ourselves in a cafe and whilst two looked after the bags, two went on the search for our accomodation and feeling excited to be in the city I volunteered for this task....... what a silly girl! Due to it being New Year everysingle guest house was fully booked (obviously every other backpacker had the intellignece to think ahead and book somewhere ... read more

I woke up, got ready, and was waiting for my bus 15 minutes before I was supposed to get picked up by my Victory Guesthouse. Had I known more about the day ahead, I would have been running in the other direction. My 'pickup' amounted to a motorbike coming by and telling me to walk over to this stretched minibus that looked like it mus have been 20 years old. I was directed next to a young guy that turned out to be a surfer hippie type from Northern Ireland. Mark added a lot to the trip, and did make the ordeal more bearable. At last, we departed about a half hour late, and the trip was forming up be uneventful until a few passengers started yelling "hit the car, hit the car". I was thinking, ... read more

The last few weeks I've been pretty busy travelling through south Vietnam and Cambodia. Haven't had a lot of time to keep this blog updated, but hopefully now I can backtrack a bit and get some pictures uploaded. Unfortunately, despite not having much time to upload pictures I decided that today would be a great day to take over 300!! So I've tried to sort the wheat from the chaff and only upload a handful of pictures from today. Someone worked out that I must have been snapping at least one picture a minute at the rate I was going. Obviously many were deleted right after snapping, so I probably took nearer 400 in total, upping my already impressive rate. That would explain why I wasn't in awe of the size of the temples I saw ... read more
