We left Vietnam excited about the prospect of Cambodia. Our journey from Saigon was a pleasure, the coach was plush and the bus boys did all the annoying boarder crossing rigmoral for us. We arrived in Phnom Penh relaxed and hopped into tuk tuk which took us to a hostel which initially we thought seemed quite nice and cheap but later discovered it really stank as we were right next to a huge local street food place and the room was sweltering hot to top it off, so not so charming in the end. We booked our tuk tuk guy for the next day as he seemed really sweet and it was the easy option the way both Sam and I like it. That afternoon we just took and stroll along the river and decided we ... read more

My third and final day in Siem Reap, and it's been a good one. Just a short morning visiting temples (only three small ones this morning) and the rest of the day has been spent in and around the city. We visited the Rolous Temples this morning, and like I said they were very small but none the less quite grand. These ones were more interesting in the fact that each of them had a pagoda attached that the buddhist monks live in, and as they were right in the middle of a village there were more locals to talk with. Again, the more I talk with them the more I realize that I am a spoiled brat at home with more than I could ever ask for in life. Every person I talk to, from ... read more

Ah ha! I have succesfully made it a full 24 hours without once flashing myself to anyone! (That I didn't mean to, of course!). I knew I had it in me! Life in Cambodia is going along just marvelously. By the end of my time in Thailand I thought all I wanted to do was just go home. I felt it so bad actually that I contemplated forgoing Cambodia and flying home early. Turns out what I really wanted was to get out of Thailand and on my own again, because I don't ever want to go back home. Right now, anyways. It is so wonderful here. That is if you don't take into account all the poverty and sadness that you see everywhere you turn. Not including that, Cambodia is wonderful. Today I had yet ... read more

Waking on the hard floor of the temple at 4:30am, I quickly bathed myself with a pan of water at the monks' water basin, threw on a light long-sleeve shirt, a pair of cargo shorts, and some comfortable hiking shoes. By 5:00am I was waiting patiently outside the gates of Wat Damnak. I watched the sky lighten and the sun begin to rise, but my tuk-tuk driver never showed. As fate would have it, I didn't end up seeing the temples of Angkor that day. Instead, I joined my host--a monk named Somnieng--and saw something far more important. Wat Damnak I'd left the ferry from Kompong Chhnang the day before at the drop-off point in a little town called Chong Kneas. I was 12km from Siem Reap--my gateway to the temples of Angkor--and I was feeling ... read more

So my time in Nepal was over and it was time for a 10 day break in Bangkok and Koh Samui with the boys to catch up on some long overdue partying/drinking/relaxing. Cambodia was to follow after this. Me and Jim boarded our flight from Katmandhu airport onto our Thai Airways plane and from this moment I was sure that I was heading to Thailand. Anything and everything Thai is always good and the greeting and politeness, the everything that is Thai from the moment we got on to the plane was just faultless. Roll on Thailand. We landed at the newly opened airport in Bangkok which puts any airport that I have ever been in to shame and the mighty Bangkok awaited. Truthfully even me who is very pro Thai always had an impression of ... read more

Ahhhh....life on the road. Wind in my hair, dirt on my face, and my life on my back. It's good to be back on my own, doing my own thing, not worrying about schedules and meetings and what others want to do. It's all about me baby, and that's just the way I likes it! So, I guess I have some explaining to do after my last blog, though like I said there's not alot about the ping pong show that I am willing to write online for all eyes and ears. After our final goodbye dinner with the group, five of us and our tour guide decided to go to Patpong, the place to go if you are looking for girls or boys or just about anything in Bangkok. Including ping-pong shows, of which there ... read more

Sorry it has been so long sometimes it is just so hard to keep track of time. So when we left off we were enjoying our time on the island which we continued to do with our daily massages well watching the sunset on the beach. The only problem we ran into was our very last night we noticed that we had some furry friends join us. Turns out we had two rats in our room we think they climb the trees and then in through the straw roof. So gross I thought I was going to have a panic attack but no need to worry Scott scared them off with a broom and they didn't seem to return. The next day we were back on the boat to the mainland where we caught a locals ... read more

So, to pick up where we left off. Having devised a cunning plan to avoid another marathon bus journey back to Bangkok, we carefully set out our plans to catch the late ferry from Koh Lanta, the last flight from Krabi airport and drop into the nearest hotel at Suvarnabhumi airport in the evening about 9pm ready for a very early rise to catch our flight to Cambodia the next day. However, the best laid plans all go to pot. First off, we were told by the hotel we had to be picked up at 7.30am to catch the only ferry of the day (much earlier than we'd expected). We were under the impression we would be going back by car ferry, instead we were dropped at the passenger ferry, but on showing our tickets were ... read more

Hello Flokes. This is going to be a bit of a marathon blog becuase we did so much at Angkor and there is so much interesting history. So your probably thinking Ángkor what?'. HAving been in SE Asia for a few months it's hard to belive that anyone doesn't know what Angork Wat is. However, I have to admit that before I came here I was vaugly aware of some ruins somewhere in Cambodia that might be worth checking out but hadn't got a clue what they where. It turns out that Angkor is a huge area that is home to propably hundereds of amazing temples and ruins most of which are 1000-1500 years old. They were built by Khmer Kings of the Angkor period. What makes them particularly interesting to me is that all temples ... read more

Kambodzassa ollaan ja matka on edennyt oikein vauhdilla. Vietnamista laivamatka Kambodzaan kesti hitaalla paatilla kolme tuntia, minka jalkeen jatkettiin viela toiset kolme tuntia Kambodzan vesilla. Parasta antia laivamatkalla olivat lasten iloiset vilkutukset joen rannoilta. Suurimman vaikutuksen teki ehdottomasti pikkupoika, joka kyykki kakalla laiturin reunalla ja lahetteli siina samalla lentosuukkoja turisteille. Laivamatkan paalle viela muutama tunti bussilla, ja oltiin vihdoin Phnom Penhissa. Oltiin kuultu kehuja eraasta jarven rannalla sijaitsevasta majapaikasta (No 9 Sister GH), joten suunnattiin suoriltaan sinne. Huh helletta ja silleen! Yhden yon pyorimisen ja yleettoman hikoilun jalkeen paatettiin vaihtaa maisemaa. Joen rannalla sijainnut Okay GH sopi paremmin meidan lammonsietokyvyllemme. Phnom Penhissa vietettiin kolme kuumaa paivaa, joiden aikana ehdin katsastamaan ... read more
