Just a quickie cos the connection here is a bit dodgy and i keep crashing it, also having probs with pictures!! Just wanted to let you know i'm alive and well and having a good time. Spent 3 days visiting the temples around here and then the evening drinking far too much and behaving badly - nothing new there then! Moving on tomorrow to the South coast for a few days on the beach and then back to the capital. Leaving behind the 2 girls and London lad i've spent my time with here but hope to meet up with them all again at Christmas in the islands. Hope all well and the weather isn't too bad.

Well, today I'm recovering from my moto trip through the north of Cambodia. To say the roads in the north are a disaster is a gross understatement! My buddy Jay was too much of a pussy to come on the journey... he thought it would be better to go relax on a beach! I was able to convince my friend Morris (aka my tuk tuk driver from the temples) to drive me on his moto. Monday morning at 4:30am we set off for the ancient capital city of Koh Ker. It took about 3.5 hours to go the 150km to the ruins... this was the easiest day of travel. Koh Ker is in a lot worse shape then the temples at Angkor... most of the temples are in ruins and the jungle has taken over... I ... read more

Hiya. We woke up very early to get the boat to Siem Reap via the Tonle Sap Lake. However as we were rushing to get ourselves together we had a bit of a 'problem' as the reception guy gave us the wrong bill. Maz told him that it was wrong as the amount was too little but he said ''no, no its okay'' so we just paid the lesser amount and then got into the cab that was waiting for us to take us to the port. However! the reception guy soon realised his mistake and called the cab man (very small town)! and put Maz on the phone to him... what a pilarva! Then the reception guy came rushing down to the port and was acting like he didnt remember us giving him any money ... read more

Well over a month into our trip and the culture shock has finally hit me. We entered Cambodia! We were planning on going to Pattaya and Ko Samet but they turned out to be to expensive for us right now. Our journey to Cambodia began at 5am. We took a third class train from thailand the the border. When we crossed over to the cambodia side you could tell the difference right away. It looked like a Garbage dump would in Canada. They roads were not paved and had a million potholes and garbage everywhere! it was not a nice site. To top off the disgusting scenary it was horrible to see how poor all the people were on the streets and how many huge casinos there were for the others who wanted to gamble away ... read more

To reach Siem Reap - base for visiting the mighty Angkor Wat - we opted for a boat ride. The weather was hot and legroom was at a premium. All the same, the trip was not altogether unenjoyable as we basked in the glorious sunshine on the top deck of the small vessel. After about five hours we arrived at the dock in Siem Reap and were greeted by about a thousand hotel representatives and rickshaw drivers; these individuals know exactly when all tourist boats and buses arrive into town and they accordingly go straight down each time to tout for business. So, after a small argument with one tout (who was putting everyone and their bags in danger of falling into the sea by getting up on the deck to solicit potential customers), we got ... read more

First of all, we wanted to thank everyone for following us on this great adventure and for leaving so many touching (and funny) comments for us. As internet connectivity is spotty, at best, and we have such precious little time, it’s pretty difficult to get back to each and every one of you. So, to all of our friends and family, we just wanted to thank you for keeping in touch with us via this blog. Thank you all for supporting us and encouraging us to make this unbelievable adventure a reality. We are so looking forward to seeing you all in person and sharing with you all the fantastic experiences we’ve had… and showing you even more pictures of the astounding things we’ve seen upon our return. Okay…so if you thought yesterday was astounding, today ... read more

No matter what we’d been told, NOTHING could prepare us for our adventure today! The temples of the ancient Khmer kingdom, which were built sometime in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, are absolute marvels. We spent a completely exhausting day today just scratching the surface of the hundreds of temples here. Apparently Jayavarman was a busy dude…building temple upon temple to honor his rule. Thank God we finally got our guide back. Dara is an amazing guy and he and his family’s life is quite amazing…really made this experience that much more personal. We started at Ta Phrom. This temple was built by Jayavarman to honor his mother (though we suspect was secretly built to vamoose her out of Jayavarman’s own house at Angkor Wat!). Unlike Billy’s mom, just having his siblings all ... read more

So... we had to come back to Phom Penh to get our Loas visas sorted out. Guess someone should have paid more attention to the guide book. It's not that big of a hitch... We'll get to see a few thing tomorrow that didn't fit into our Jam-pack schedule a few days ago. In spending time here I wish we had left more time to explore this country. Who ever says you can do Cambodia in a week probably fell off one of the motos without a helmet. In Siem Reap we spent three deays at Angkor Wat and, well Magical and Majestic, they are better expressed in pictures. I don't have pictures on my blog because I'm not interested in spending lots of money and wasting time in a country that I haven't explored just ... read more

.....population 60,000,000" say the kids selling postcards, bangles and books in Siem Reap. It's pretty repetitive but is done by such sweet kids that it's impossible to get angry.....and it beats the adults whose response is to say "Lovely jubbley" or reel off a list of Premiership players. Siem Reap is a fascinating place, its main pull is the temples of Angkor including the most famous Angkor Wat. The temples bring in masses of tourists ranging from backpackers to rich western tour groups. The hotels, restaurants and bars cater for such diverse groups with $10 guesthouses alongside famous names like Raffles where rooms can be up to $2,000 (a night!). The tourists obviously are the main reason for the number of kids selling their wares, they are fairly present in town but congregate mainly around the ... read more
