Background: Independent from France in 1960, Senegal joined with The Gambia to form the nominal confederation of Senegambia in 1982. However, the envisaged integration of the two countries was never carried out, and the union was dissolved in 1989. Despite peace talks, a southern separatist group sporadically has clashed with government forces since 1982. Senegal has a long history of participating in international peacekeeping.

Mboro part 2 after ramadan and korite which ramadan is when all muslims can't eat during the day except for non-muslims, the sick, and the kids. Korite is the party at the end where everyone dresses in their best gear which is bou-bous, some of these pics are from class and others are from a beach party that we had and others at korite. Some of these pics I am sick, the one with the bou-bou the others didn't text me that they were coming so I was fully asleep when they told me to put on the bou-bou so I [View Full Entry]

Pambal is pretty rural so most of the families there raise crops like peanuts, beans and millet. The head master of the school, [View Full Entry]

I am only a few hours out of Thiafaithe and I already miss the place. A small Catholic Serere village of only 32 families, what I lacked in size it made up in character. It had been our home on and off for the last six weeks as we grew accustomed to culture and struggled with the language. I could not think of a better place for my first real exposure to Senegalese hospitality. There, you will never go hungry and there will always be a seat waiting come afternoon tea. Thiafaithe has is magic, not just from the fortune tellers [View Full Entry]
