I've settled into the daily routine of rise, cycle, eat, arrive, sleep. It's a lovely simplistic side-step from reality for a while. After leaving Casablanca I cycled first to El Jadida and then on southwards to Ouiladia, Souira Kidema and on to Sidi Kaouki, Imsouane, Agadir, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni and Guellmim. Along the way I've seen plenty of wildlife, from chipmonk like mammals along the cliffs, maybe they were chipmonks, to tortoises, slowly and safely crossing the road. And of course all the brilliant birdlife. As I get further south, the landscape becomes drier, and drier. There is no longer dew on the tent in the morning when I camp. Not that it's all camping. About half my nights have been spent in lovely little hotels and pensions. Just because I have been sticking to the ... read more

It's been a time for goodbyes. Some have happened, some are going to happen soon. I guess travelling is all about goodbyes. Welcomes and goodbyes. You arrive somewhere, you stay for a while, and you leave again. Hello, how are you, and goodbye. That about sums it up. But I am not talking about those everyday goodbyes. I am talking about those that are closer to the heart. Goodbyes to loved ones. Goodbye to Jenni. She had to return to Germany, back to work, back to real life. Not everyone can stay in the dream like state that I call life. Eternal bliss. I'm just lucky. But before we said goodbye (but not farewell!), we took in Marrakech. Morocco's premier tourist destination. It was a bit of a shock, after the countryside and sleepy Taroudant. All ... read more

The sun rose over the pink cliffs surrounding Tafraoute, though the beautiful view was somewhat marred by the roofs of the town below and the rubbish lying in the streets. We set off in the car once more, for our longest driving day. The first 2 ½ hours took us to Tiznit, with the first 90 minutes spent ascending and descending the mountains on a hair raising road that was essentially single track, but with wide enough unmade verges to allow another vehicle to squeeze past on the mercifully few occasions that we encountered one. The land to either side looked as if it had been terraced, but with nothing being grown on it we wondered if it was, in fact, natural. Houssain told us that it was man made, but that the land has fallen ... read more

Never say I regret, say I learned ~ Moroccan Proverb HE SAID... Today we were travelling southwest from Marrakesh to Sidi Ifni via Agadir. We woke late. I’d accidently set the alarm for 6:30pm, so we had to hustle. We quickly organised our packs and headed straight down to breakfast. Ren wasn’t feeling 100%%, as she had not slept well during the night (due to a constant cough). Her appetite was fairly low, but I made up for what she couldn’t eat. I had three fresh juices – orange, lemon and beetroot – along with mint tea, cornflakes, almond yoghurt, baguettes and jam. It was a standard way to start the day, and I loved the simplicity and freshness of our Moroccan breakfasts. We dragged our packs down to the hotel lobby, loaded them into the ... read more

Rano vypadnutie z mrazaku. V blizkom obchode kupena cokolada a voda a smer namesticko odkial odchadza bus c.18 smer legzira beach. Bus tu uz bol odstaveny, ide kazdu hodinu, naskakujem dnu. Mal som smolu predchadzajuci odisiel asi cca 10.min pred mojim prichodom, tak hodinu len tak sedim v buse. To mi vobec nevadi, i tak som este neni uplne fit. Opustame toto prti mestecko, prichadza predavacka listkov, kupuju sa u nej a nie u vodica. Platim 6dh, dostavam listok.

Noc totalne nahovno, zima a tvrda postel. Na ranajky zbieham dole do restiky, davam si omeletu s cajom, to neskor este zalievam teraflu. V blizkom obchode kupujem vodu a potom uz len relax na terase, kde lezim v kresle na slnicku. Citam knihu a hlavne pospavam. Ani neviem ako a uz je 14/00. Patrilo by sa ist aj na plaz. Ta ja dlhokanska, par surferov, na plazi vsak odpadky a kopa kamenov. Veru teda nic moc. Volaky marokanci volaco po mne kricali, chceli ohen. Presun do mesta, tu si uz davam mix ryb a zapijam to colou.

Len my to vyfluslo kartu a volaco napisalo po arabsky resp francuzsky. With all of us placed in Kenzi Farah Hotel in Marrakech, we were looking forward to a relaxing week celebrating Christmas. We had arranged a few guided tours. First we went for camel riding, quite fun and also visiting a berber home with tea. Next a tour to Ourika valley in the Atlas mountains also visiting the berber population and expiring their way of life. When we finally moved out of the hotel and got home again it was with a good feeling, the discussions with the management in our home is much more easy life, than all the discussions and arguing with hotel personnel. Communication lines in our travel home is much more efficient and direct. The road brought us then to Agadir, an almost european looking town, with a beach promenade, a nice beach ... read more

Africa » Morocco » Guelmim » Mirleft March 30th 2013
