O que levaria 2h30 ... read more

Greetings all and happy Easter from Dahab. Just over a week ago I arrived in the wee hours of the morning to our lovely resort in Cairo. It was great to reunite with Amy and we stayed up chatting until we heard the morning call to prayer at 4am. I very much enjoyed a bit of shut eye in my very comfortable bed after 54 days on a blow up mat, in a tent. The next morning we enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast by the pool in the sunshine and heat. Amy was very excited to finally catch some rays after a dragging winter in London. We spent the day sunbaking, reading, and swimming which was very relaxing and that night we met our tour group and guide Meaga, to find out what the upcoming week ... read more

So the last week feels like a bit of a blur. I spent five days in Dahab and this is how each day went: About 10am: probably should get out of bed and head downstairs for choice of continental or Egyptian breakfast (falafel) 10am-12pm: attempt to do some writing, catch up on banking etc and do a budget check (because I’m travelling long-term I unfortunately have to do this. It consists of checking the card and bank balances against my budget spend for each country…see, there is a maths geek lurking deep inside!) 12pm-4pm: head down to the Fresh Fish restaurant, pick a deckchair at the front (less than 1.5m from the water) and swim/lie in the sun/read The God of Small Things/drink fresh mango juice. 4pm-6:30pm: Nap. 6:30pm: either have coffee and more reading time ... read more

After getting some recommendations from my tour guide, once I finished the tour in Cairo I decided to head for the Red Sea and some relaxation. A holiday within a holiday! I think Africa is going to be tiring, and that is starting in about five days, so why not some beach time first? On Saturday night our group had a last dinner (and sheesha) together in Cairo in the bar upstairs at the hotel. Then I figured I should book what I was doing from there, so I got online and booked a return flight with Egyptair to Sharm El Sheikh, planning about five days in Dahab. Originally I wasn't going to go anywhere near Sinai because there have been some tourist kidnappings in the area, even off the road between Taba and Dahab. But ... read more

The plane departs at 8.50am. We all meet for a quick breakfast in the morning and then head to the airport. The funniest bit about this is the bag weigh. Jamaces bag is 26KG!!!! Lol. We all get on the plane and we are put in random seats around the plane however me and MO are seated together waahoo. The others are looking through the on board magazine which shoes a Map of the countries in the world. Being obviously the token New Zealander in our group, they all take the mickey out of me, as NZ isnt shown on the Map however Australia is... Story of our life eh? Anyways I chat to Mo and show him pictures of New Zealand. He's sold. The funniest thing was ... read more

We arrived in Dahab after a 40 minute flight from Hurghada which saved us a 12 hour bus ride something we were all very grateful for. Dahab is a small costal town situated on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula. Many people travel here to get their diving competencies as it is very cheap and because Dahab offers some of the best diving spots in the world. We arrived at our hotel which is beachfront late in the evening where we could see the lights of Saudi Arabia over the ocean. Before we went to sleep we made plans to snorkel the following day at the famous blue hole. The Blue Hole is a subarine sinkhole around 130 m deep. The hole itself and the surrounding area has an abundance of coral and reef fish. ... read more

I arrived at Nuweiba port at about 7.30 a.m. after a freezing cold, sleepless ferry journey. I managed to get some Egyptian money, Visa and went looking for a bus to Dahab. Unfortunately I realised that it had gone at 6.30 and there wasnt another one until 10.30. After 2 nights with very little sleep I eventually agreed to get a taxi for 100 LE. As soon as I got to Dahab, I found Penguin Village and pretty much slept for the day and night, getting some food and arranging my diving for the next day. I started the PADI Open Water Diving Course the next day and finished it 2 days later. Having got the Certificate, I decided to do 2 of the Advanced dives in the Canyon and the Blue Hole. The Blue Hole ... read more
