We have a whole day
to play with Magda and Marcel in their city of Warsaw. Morning brings warm, sunny skies on a beautiful fall day. Magda took Marcel to kindergarten and then met us for breakfast at the hotel. First order of the day was to figure out if we were bumped from our flights the following morning, so Magda chauffeured us in her cute Opel to the airport. The bad news was that we couldn't check in to receive our boarding passes, but the good news was we weren't bumped from our flights. On the way, we just had to stop and play in the pretty leaves!
Warsaw is beautiful today, and we're tickled we could spend THE perfect day together! Magda fixed us a fabulous lunch of zurek and kielbasa. We can still taste the delicious flavors. No one can make this meal like Magda. And we learned it's the same with the chocolate brownie recipe she received from Mommy Laurie. 😊
We decided to bum around town, and Magda joined us in our search for a fan. No luck, and we finally accept the fact that it's out of season. No worries! We stop at
kindergarten to pick up Marcel a little early from school, and we head over to Magda's office. She's involved in specialized stress-relief training with three loving dogs for the office staff, and the dogs greet everyone warmly. While training is in session, Chuck and Terri play with Marcel in a conference room. We played tic-tac-toe, and we drew pictures on the white board. In no time at all, Magda was ready to go.
After parking the car, we went for a nice walk. Next stop -- the Presidential Palace! Magda organized a private tour for us with a friend of hers who works for one of the VIPs in the Palace! Pictures don't do it justice -- it is amazing -- and if the walls could talk, they would share an incredible history. It was great fun to be at the Palace, which is actually where the President works each day. Unlike our President, he lives elsewhere, a short distance away. Sadly, he missed our visit!
Magda wouldn't let us treat Marcel and her for dinner. Instead, she fixed pierogis -- both Russian and plum -- and we could've eaten all of them if we'd had room
-- plus a fresh green salad, a little more kielbasa and a delicious cake with ice cream. Wow!
All too soon, it's time for us to head back to our hotel. Marcel and Magda walked us to our room, and then we walked them back to the lobby. Terri and Marcel had a good time playing with the revolving door in the lobby!
Long before the sun came up, we were at the airport and soon winging our way to Berlin, Chicago, and Green Bay. Our visit was too short, but we simply close our eyes, and we're right there again! (Scroll down for more photos on this and the next page.)
