After a whirlwind tour of Genada, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela which was viewed from a porthole we arrived in Bonaire to stay for a week. Bonaire is a small caribbean island, surrounded by amazing dive sites and with salt flats and flamingoes. We arrived during carnival so I was able to watch a few of the street parades with the glittering costumes and steel pan bands, they get everyone dancing in the streets. Was able to have a couple of days off so I did my Advanced Open Water Dive course with a company right across the road from the port. This was my second trip to visit Sarah in St. Maarten in two months so I'm not posting too many St. Maarten pics. We did, however, fly to a couple of neighbouring islands so it was still a new experience. We flew to the French Island of St. Barts (Saint Barthelemy) for a day so that Sarah could re-enter St. Maarten on her Dutch passport and save the school from paying for her work visa. The school paid for her flight so it was pretty easy to say yes. We flew to St. Barts in a 19-seat DHC Twin-Otter which is a little smaller than I would prefer. This is a week long blog consolidated to one entry. Why Bonaire? We are often asked that. Lots of people, excluding divers, don't really even know where it is located. It is considered one of the top diving spots in the world. We chose Bonaire because of our love for flamingos. Still, people wondered why Bonaire and not Hawaii or Cancun. My wife and I were married on Saturday May 16, 1998 at 2pm in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Treasure Island Hotel. After the wedding and reception, we left for McCarran International Airport to catch our red eye flight to Fort Lauderdale.
