Hi All. Sam here. Wren and Stuart have been doing most of the blogging, but thought I would throw my biscuit in too. Last night a number of us suffered from St. Gregories' revenge which took a lot out of us (get it?) and so were a little lethargic in the morning. Today was more bucket lines for mixing and passing concrete and we finished the floor of their main room. We had a group of about 10 former Armenian/U.S. exchange students with us this time and we were able to form an additional team to pull bucket loads of purple pumice (pictures coming) up into the attic where they are used as insulation. Sorry for missing yesterday. We didn't have time to go to the internet cafe. Yesterday was another work day, but before work we took a trip to see the church in the town we are working in (Khor Virap). We climbed down a hole with a long, potentially dangerous ladder. Saint Gregory, who brought Christianity to Armenia, was imprisoned at the bottom of the hole in a little room for 13 years. At work we did more bucket lines, but this time we passed cement to make the floor of the house. Stuart shoveled most of the day and the rest of us passed buckets. Well after waiting and flying and waiting and flying we finally have arrived here in Yerevan. Our flight was delayed for eight hours in Dulles which was actually convenient because it save us the trouble of having to wait in Moscow for ten hours before going to armenia. We are staying at the shirak hotel in the middle of the city and as izzy has brilliantly put it "they made everything for dwarves". Meaning that the beds are very small and anglos such as myself and izzy have to hang half of our legs off of the beds. Hi All Jusat returned from my first trip to Yerevan, Armenia. Wow it was fantastic. nothing like you first imagine of an ex CCCP state. The people were so friendly, lovely climate and just sitting in the local cafe's drinking eastern coffee (turkish coffee), just pur bliss. Of all the countries I have been to this was probably the most different to my first expectation. I had an image of poor, with the majority being in low class and no middle class... how wrong was I. The country was cultururally brilliant. Even the street traders would try and talk in broken english, semi russian, semi armenian... but a smile translates in all languages. :-) I stayed in Republic Square... just awesome... it beats most squares in the world... at night you can sit there listening to ... read more
