We are currently in Sydney and want to spend a couple of weeks in the south including Taz.

We have decided to buck the trend and travel south to Melbourne and then to Taz, back to Melbourne and then on to Adelaide, then fly back to Sydney then off to S E Asia. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what is the the best of the above locations. We have a $2500 budget and we like to hike - beachcomb - watch wildlife etc, we aren't into the real tourist stuff and can do without seeing any museums or art galleries and the cities that host them.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers and thanks again !!!!

Hi Bill and Joanne,

I lived in Tassie for about 7 years (don't know the other locations as well) - my favourite places were Freycinet National Park, Cradle Mountain NP and Port Arthur. Hobart has some places definitely worth seeing as well.

There's photo entries on my blog for Freycinet and Cradle Mountain, not Port Arthur though (look for the earlier entries). Reply to this
