Advice on traveling from London, UK to Barcelona, Spain
16 years ago, November 7th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #22112
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some advice regarding travel from London to Barcelona. I am planning a trip from London to Barcelona in January, and then from Barcelona to Rome and back to London. I found some flights from ryanair.com, and although it\'s a great deal the airport is Stansted, which is a far trip from where I\'m staying in London. Considering that I would be saving around $100 by taking a flight from Stansted, as opposed to Gatwick or Heathrow, is it worth it? Does anyone have any other suggestions? If anyone has taken flights out of London to within Europe, can you please tell me your traveling arrangements to get an idea. Thanks in advance. Reply to this

I have used Stansted from London many times and there is usually no problem. You need to get the train called the "Stansted express" or there are buses which are a little cheaper but a lot longer. LIke any of the London airports, security is a major issue; it can take up to 35-40 minutes in busy periods just to clear the queue and x ray machines, etc.

For a Ryanair flight I usually allow 1h 20 from the time I arrive at the checkin (better still, opt for the "priority boarding" when booking online, assuming you have only hand luggage; it is free at present). They are very strict about allowances at the security - for example, ladies must be able to place their handbag inside the 10kg hand luggage - you can't wear it as an 'extra'. Additionally, they will give you the see-through plastic bag for your toiletries but ensure none is more than 100mls.

Have a good trip,

I don't recall it being very hard to get to the airport. I think I flew out of Luton and just took a train there from either Victoria or the King Cross Station.

If you fly Ryan Air from London to Ruess, you can take a bus from Ruess to Barcelona or even a train from Ruess to Barcelona. FYI though, you have to taxi from the airport to the train station and they charge a flat 17 Euro fee. There's something wrong w/paying 17 Euro for a 10 minute taxi ride just to pay 7.50 for a train ride. Bus is cheaper I believe. I want to say it's around 12.50, but I could be wrong. I took the train due to extrinuating circumstances.

I want to say Ruess is about 1.5 hours south of Barcelona. The train ride along the coast was a gorgeous view though.

Hi

Ryanair has flights from both Luton/Stansted to both Reus/Girona. Both Luton & Stansted are easy to access from central London. Both Reus/Girona have transport to central Barcelona.

Easyjet flies to the main Barcelona airport (about 12km from the city centre) from Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.

There is a cracking Barcelona website here:
Barcelona Travel - Getting There

I used it a couple of months back and it had detailed advice on travelling to and getting around Barcelona. May help...

Easy.
Use easybus (yes, they're easyjets sister company) and pay about £4 each way.
It picks you up from Baker St (near the tube station) and drops you back there on the way back.
Takes about 1hr to get there and then leave an extra hour or 2 for checkin etc.
They leave about every half hour, almost 24hr a day.
I've used them about 6 times now. Reply to this

All i will say is do not go to girona to save money. you will undoubtedly end up paying for something wiht ryanair and the bus into barca from girona is pretty steep. Fly to barcelona airport from London, easyjet is a pretty safe bet (from gwk, ltn, std) and when you get to barca take the aerobus (4 euros to cataunya) or the train (1.70 euros to passeig de gracia). th bus is fractionally faster but you will not have trouble with either. Check out this site it has loads of info about transport and barca itself. www.apartime.com Reply to this
