Hi guys, first post here!

Erm... not much to say, heading to Riga in mid September for a long weekend with a close mate of mine and was wondering what is the night-life like, what I should look out for, things to do etc.

Absolutely anything is appreciated, only evern been to China/HK (Chinese origin) so this is totally new kettle of fish for me.

Thanks in advance.

Ohh please there are things to do in Riga even for just couple of hours, don't waste time sitting in the airport.
at least go to the old town and spend some time sitting there or eat some lunch in the restaurant! I know portal where a lot of good places are mentioned - friend of mine suggested that there are a lot of places/things to see/do while in Riga.

I have spent 3 days in Riga, and I absolutely loved it :DDD It was amazing just to walk down the narrow alleys and beautiful cobblestone streets. Besides street musicians give the old town a special special vibe as well. It is a perfect spot to relax and have a cup of coffee in a lovely cafe. However, before going to Latvia, I did a little research and I can tell you if you are looking for some tips, such as what to do and what to see in Latvia, check this guide <snip> It gives insight into what Latvia is like. I hope you’ll get some great ideas for your visit, as I did.

I live in Riga. Riga is changing very fast, so 2007 is a far past. It's always somehow suspicios (?), but I would begin with the information from official sourses: for example Riga Travel Agency (www.rta.lv) or www. liveriga.lv or simply ask Google 'Riga travel' and You get a lot of information. Then is reasonable ask some detailed help here or elsewhere. Good luck! Reply to this

Well, this is old, but as not many people write here about Latvia anyway, we can keep this as a topic for those who travel to Latvia. As for Riga, first of all, I would definitely suggest browsing some local sites for info (like <a <snip>, as they usually provide a comprehensive list of things to see.

If you fancy high randomness, I'd suggest just going to the Old Town of Riga and... just go with the flow. Life never stops there, so you'll your probably find yourselves in a company of other tourists at a concert (yes, they even have small outdoor stages in the Old Town pretty often) or one of local pubs. Random encounters are always fun :D

I have been in the Baltics in 2011 and it was very interesting. Here is the link to my trip:

I like the old towns of Riga, Talinn, Vilnius and Kaunas especially. There are also other sights. Today you can pay in all three countries with the Euro which makes things easier.

For transport I can recommend busses which is more or less the only way as there are very limited train connections. Very often they even have Wifi. Reply to this
