I'm 70 and like travelling, but now mostly in internet... But I like see what's happening, where people have been and generally - how the world is. My special love though is Nordic Nature, my homeland Latvia inclusive. My English is poor, so I hope I could improve it by reading and by writing short impressions. Perhaps...

Wanderer How does John Bauer see his trolls Trolls were not at all indifferent to the practical benefits. Quite often, they feature a large, robust real property bags. Good evening, old man! the boy greeted. This character has a typical for most of the trolls large round nose – almost like a scone (rarely, especially for troll wives we found a bird’s beak like noses).url=http://www.norsenature.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/574px-God_kv%C3%A4ll_farbror_H%C3%A4lsade_pojken.jpgimg=http://www.norsenature.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/574px-God_kv%C3%A4ll_farbror_H%C3%A4lsade_pojken.jpg But on the next picture is a real cash-drawer. On the middle of the floor there was an open treasure chest and with two horrible trolls sitting. They were so busy counting the treasure that they neither saw nor heard Tjovik enter. Troll is at counting his money and his posit... read more

Wanderer How does John Bauer see his trolls No, they are not trolls, what do you think – in today’s Internet: heroes-not-heroes-anti-heroes! They are the real trolls, as Europe and the world saw them a hundred years ago (1911;1912;1913). Not everyone, of course, saw them, but those who became acquainted with the world of John Bauer (1882 – 1918), Swedish painter and illustrator. Trolls in Scandinavia, especially Norway, are naturally already known in ancient times. But really they are depicted by Henrik Ibsen in his Peer Gynt and can be heard in Edvard Grieg’s music. However, the particular form they took only in the listener’s mind and imagination. Each had their ... read more

Wanderer Photo Suren Manvelyan No other living creature in the world has so special, beautiful, even stunning eyes – bright sky-blue, sometimes as the South sea or aquamarine color, sometimes darker – as a concentrate, as an old-time (!) school years ink. It is no coincidence, not a whim of nature. It is related to a specific gene that has been worked out in the biography of this species in its history through thousands of years. Mainly – from the permanent life on snow plains, hills and fields, where the snow is still there in the polar summer. A... read more

Wanderer The story of the beautiful northern city of Umeå should be repeated. The key things has already been said in Umeå – I. But the picture story is more interesting and attractive, than description and estimating . And it can be repeated in many variations! In addition, some new accents have been added yet. Well, first of all, it is a little expanded geographic coverage – now there is also the Ume River, which gave its name to the city. The river can be seen as such, per se – quiet, mysterious, mistcovered. However, it appears as an energy source, too – Stornorrfors Damm .img=http://www.nor... read more

Wanderer No, this is not a prehistoric forest beast, not troll family manager, but quite a normal farm animal. True – with relatives in Scotland. Those farm animals are living here today. 'Here' – this is Vormsi, Estonia. Do you know what is Vormsi? No wonder, if you do not know. I also did not know until recently when I found this place because of my beloved Nordic Nature theme – in this case exactly to the Nordic Orchids (Military Orchid from Vormsi Island: Orchis militaris L.; some specialists think it is rather Orchis ustulata L. ssp.aestivalis, I agree with them!)img=http://www.norsenature.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05... read more

Wanderer Umeå (Sweden) is popularly known as the City of the Birches. After a large fire 1888th the city began to build broad (and not so broad) avenues with birch trees. Just as some kind of firewall, the barrier protection, a safeguard against the spread of fire in case of a danger. I saw one of the city’s symbols – stainless steel sculpture by Ernst Nordin (1934). I thought to myself it was a stylized birch tree. It turned out differently – a sculpture represents the impression of a generalized image of the Northern L... read more

Wanderer It is difficult or even impossible to find an animal friend who does not like the huskies (here I do not start a discussion on a variety of species, subspecies and multiformity – these dogs you encounter throughout the whole Arctic region: Canada, Alaska, Siberia). 'Like' is not the right word. So really it should be said it’s difficult to find one who isn’t delighted, enraptured by huskies, who does not rejoice in these creatures. In the same way the huskies behave to the people. They are so friendly, faithful and diligent, so sincerely. It is no accident. It has been worked out through thousands of years. However, other dogs and horses and even cats, who are known to love to walk, where ... read more

Wanderer Wings, Legs and Tails – was entitled a competition of photographs not much long ago organized by Kizhi Museum management. The results don’t count – that time was not important to make out who is who. By the way profi’s know it without any competitions. Important was a variety, much sense of humor, rich imagination. Fancy, fantasie! And luck. Because You can wait hours and hours till this beautiful insect or reptile – dear little thing – decides it’s time to rest a bit or, quite in juxtaposition, it’s time to go, to climb, to fly, to jump home. But… where is the home? Every photo has two titles. One from its author, mainly professional photographer. Other – from myself (NN) as it just came from above ( I mean heaven). Wanderer Our way goes further. Now already on the island in Lake Onega. Its name is Kizhi ( Russian Kiži – cyrillic, Karelian Kiži). Kizhi is near the geometrical center of Lake Onega and one of almost 1,400 islands situated in lake. By far not the biggest – about 5 km2 (1.9 sq mi). But very beutiful and valuable. Now it’s rather a kind of museum – the whole island. And even the traditional rural life is a part of this status. But there is no theatre: everything is true, genuine. Look at this young woman – she is working like her ancestors centuries ago. Photo Oleg Semenenko The marvellous wooden buildings – a part of them – really are collected in Karelia in order to keep them 'alive'. But per se they are also real ... read more

Rügen II Wanderer Yes, again Rügen, again a dream land. This time – with more wide chronological swing. And just as an annex, appendix, reminder. At first, a paysage as seen and painted by Caspar David Friedrich (Kreidefelsen auf Rügen / Chalk cliffs on Rügen, ~ 1818). All fine traced, especially in the romantic wishful branch of leaves with the almost Art Nouveau motifs and winding. Also the characters – well, not really travellers, not exactly epicurians, picnic participants. The curious elderly Mr. as if wanting to look down, as if not to… Beautiful, even a bit too much. To evaluate painting as evidence of its age and the typical expression – that can I understand and support, to love and to take close to the heart – that’s not very likely …url=http://www.norsenature.com/ ... read more
