So I'm visiting Australia for the first time. I'll be in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm hoping to travel around. Any suggestions as to what I should see besides the obvious ones?

Hey all,

I'm going to be studying abroad in Brisbane, Australia at Griffith University this coming February-June/July. I was wondering, besides the obvious things to see in Australia (Great Barrier Reef/Opera House/Ayer's Rock, etc), what are some suggestions on what I should try and go do and see? Certain locations that anyone reccomends, or things to see. I'm pretty open about where; I'm hoping to travel around when I can. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Also looking forward to meeting new people, so let me know if anyone would be interested in meeting up 😊

Thanks again,

Hi Chandra

Welcome....Brisbane and its surrounding areas have loads to offer and some of the best beaches (I think) in the world! So for places that are within a couple of hours drive, I would suggest places like Maleny & Eumundi, Noosa, Fraser Island, Burleigh Heads (a favourite Gold Coast Beach spot), Stradbroke Island and also another great spot is Byron Bay in Nth NSW. The hinterland is also quite beautiful, places like Mt Tamborine etc. Griffith Uni should have information out of noticeboards etc for international students and also have fun days and events, ask in the International Centre they should be able to help you adjust and find out what us Aussies like to get up to! All of the above famous Australian sights are a must, but you have to fly to get there, so while you are here in Brisbane check out some local spots as they are just as nice!! Things to see and do around Brisbane can be found on www.ourbrisbane.com.au, buses to the city from Griffith Nathan and Mt Gravatt Campus's, so easy to get around!

Thanks so much for the tips 😊 Yeah I'll have to check out the information boards and stuff. I'm really looking forward to being able to travel around. There is so much that I want to see. I've been wanting to visit Australia ever since I was a little girl so I'm like overwhelmed with all the stuff there is to do. 😊 Thanks again for all of your suggestions! Reply to this
