Ive just realised I love diving Caves. I thought I was a wall person but after Cubadak want to do more exploring of caves..other than Sipidan can anyone recommend cave dive sites for me?

What do you all prefer...muck? wall? pinacle? cave? or a good mixed bag.

I got some free flights from Jetstar after they cancelled my flight even though they had a month to notify me due to the DPS airport curfew so I posted on their FB page and now have 2 x free returns to Bali. I kind of realised caves is where I like exploring most when im diving and have dived Lembongan and Flores and Komodo but havent really heard of any more cavey dive sites other than turtle cave at Sipidan. Should I add on Palawan? Any caves in the Phillipines?

Have done a fair bit of thailand.....and cant afford to go to PNG or Raja Ampat but have a real thirst for more caves Reply to this

I'd love to try some cave diving - we've got lots of walls and swimthru's here on the great barrier reef, but no caves that I'm aware of. Reply to this

Pixie's Caves Reef Basics: Wall dive, caverns
Depth: 5 - 30m
Visibility: 5 - 20m
Currents: Gentle
Surface conditions: Can be choppy
Water temperature: 26 - 28°C
Experience level: Beginner - advanced
Number of dive sites: 1
Diving season: All year round
Distance: 180 km north-east of Port Douglas
Access: Australia liveaboards

Ribbons reef at Port Douglas is the only site I know of that is visited by dive boats with caverns. I havent dived there for about 4 years but from memory it was a nice dive and lots of activity - you could always ask your local dive centre if they know of any others. Reply to this

I applaud all of you who have interest in diving caves but it is not my cup of tea. I don't like that closed in feeling. I like being able to see to the other side.

When we were in Sumatra I had a heap of movies on the IPad for mum to watch and unfortunately she picked Sanctum to watch while I was out diving LOL..I had to explain to her caverns in the ocean are very different from caves under land...that I would not do. Cenotes in Mexico yes, the caves on the nullabor in Aus where people regularly get stuck and die..no.

Sanctum is quite a good movie btw Reply to this

Cindy, so far my best caves where South West Rock...longuest Aussie cave....Sipadan was pretty fun too....if you stop around Phi Phi, I have guys who can take you to Snake Cave...seems not that many people bring you there...well, will have to wait end of 2013 for me to go back diving in Thailand.. Yes, you have to drop down into Shark Cave as they call it to wait for the incoming tide to scoot into Tipuata Pass..the cave isnt the reason im going, its Tipuata...Forever chasing Cousteau 😊 Reply to this

I emailed the people Jean Michel Cousteau filmed tipuata pass with and asked what time would be best for diving the pass - his answer was "Tommorow" :-)

I will be heading over to the south pacific for 3 weeks in February - its been on my wishlist forever! Cant wait. Reply to this

January now 😉 I know its the rainiest month but hey, in PNG we had over 300mm of rain in 24 hours so....i am going to be a plonguee so I will be wet anyway.

I finished work on friday for 15 days and was supposed to be..all booked too but all transferable to later dates so no dramas..in Alor this week but I have the worst chest infection and cough I thought it wise to put it off and bring tahiti forward!

Your whale and seal dives just blew me away - I was reading your blog at work when one of my fellow lecturers also a diver walked past, saw your pics and said....When I grow up, i want to be him 😊 Reply to this

Thanks a lot Cindy...to be honest, if I had knew 20 years ago what would happen during these 20 years...I think I would have said the same as your fellow lecturer...

If it was to do it again, I sign tomorrow...for the good...and the bad... Reply to this
