Reef Fish Identification Book

Which one is best for the Asia-Pacific area?

With snorkelling set, stinger suit, reef shoes, and mask defogger all purchased, the only item remaining for my nascent hobby (apart from an underwater camera) is a guide to identify the reef fish I witness.
There are simple waterproof ID cards, and then there are books. The thought of carrying an ID with me whilst snorkelling seems a bit inane, especially since I want one hand free for photography.
I am currently eyeing Reef Fish Identification - Tropical Pacific. The only negative with this choice is that it is a trifle heavy for travelling.
Should I be purchasing a book, or is there some other option I am not considering; so experienced divers and snorkellers - what would you recommend? Reply to this

You've hit the major downside straight off - the best books are the heavy books....
The one you listed above is one I've used but don't own (I've just sent away my collection - there are a couple I'd recommend in there!) - it was good.
If you are snorkelling with a dive shop - they should have a bunch of fish id books in the shop, and usually at least one fish geek (like I used to be) who will be happy to help you out.

I'm a very rusty fish geek... I used to know all the Latin names for Nudibranches (the ones I'd see on a regular basis) and now I'm struggling to remember. Reply to this
