Europe
Hi!!

My partner and I wanna travel to a few places in the near future, and are deciding were to go. As i wanna be a travel agent any were i go will also be a bonus
Theres some places we wanna go, and some not, but ive been told Europe is all very close and cheap.. for example, we only wanna go to greece to see athins
but thought.. no point going there if we only wanna see one place, but ive been told its rather cheap so may as well go.. if that makes sense?
So far we've come up with the following;

Germany- I really wanna visit because of all the war stuff there, and it seems like an interesting country.I dont know much about Germany.

Italy- I wanna see Venice, Rome, Florence. I dont know much about Italy to, but it seems these three are the most popuplar places to go.

France- I know about a few places there i'd like to visit.

Greece- We were going to pass with Greece, but if its rather cheap to go, may as well got even for 1-2 days?

The Netherlands- I just wanna go there to see the musuem of anne franks diary, as i really enjoyed the movie, and really wanted to see it. Not sure if theres anything else decent there?

Switzerland/Sweden/Poland/Spain/Norway/Finlan/Denmark- Dunno if its worth going to?.. dunno anything about them really.

Iceland- I've been told its the safest place to travel. And reasearch has said so. I know nothing about iceland, but im really keen to go. ive seen pictures and it seems so nice there!

As you can probably tell, i don't know much about Europe, but would love to travel to these places and learn all about it.
Im not a "clubbing" .. "party" person. So if we did tours they'd have to be tours with non partying .. so not like contiki for example.
We also DONT wanna back-pack it either. Prefer hotels..than hostels..
Can anyone give me adivce on the top places weather they are worth going?..
Were into sight seeing.. so museums, old jails, art gallaries aquariums, zoos.. etc.. not sure if these places have these, but yeah.

Hi Tammy

Have you thought about reading up on various places so you get a better idea of where to go and what to see. You can read all about other peoples' travels in Europe on here Europe travelblogs .

You could also pick up a guidebook like Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. You could borrow them from your local library.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'cheap'. Europe ranges in the cost of living. Iceland, for example, is very expensive. Most of western Europe is quite pricey. It's going to more more expensive than Australia in many places. When deciding which countries to visit, you need to factor in distance and time/cost of travelling. Where are you going to visit Greece from, if you are going for 1-2 days. Are you planning to travel by train, bus or flight? Europe is a big continent. There are some budget airlines that you could check out like Ryanair and Easyjet. Check out this list: Attitude travel guide to low cost airlines in Europe You can check out the cost of flying between certain cities.

Perhaps get a map of Europe and try to pencil in a route and look up how long it will take to travel between places using various forms of transport.

Hope this helps

Hi Tammy,

I've got to agree with Kris & Kate Western Europe is not cheap at all & parts of Eastern Europe are getting quite expensive too. I've not been to any Scandanavian countries yet (getting married in Sweden next month though) but I've heard it is EXTREMELY expensive, I'm not a drinker but I've heard it can be as expensive as £10 for a pint of beer (about $15).

I've only been to Italy a couple of times & I visited Rome on one of those visits, this is my favourite city in the world but it is not cheap. The other places you have mentioned I haven't been to yet (but in July we will be touring Italy for our honeymoon).

If you want to find hotels in these places I usually go on google earth, find where all the sights are I want to see & then find a hotel in that location by clicking on the bed icon which usually takes you to the hotel website. Reply to this

Thanks 😊 .. im new here so still trying to figure it all out 😊 .. i came across the travel blogs today, i'll check em out, thanks 😊

When i meant cheap, like people have said to me, dont bother going to USA.. its soo expensive, Europe is VERY cheap. Apparently transport, hotels, things to do, basic cost of living is VERY cheap!! and Although there are a few hot spots i'd like to see, i thought, may as well visit alot around there if it is cheap.

Wow, i didnt know Iceland was expensive?.. But Iceland is definatly one place i wanna travel, so i don't mind.

In Greece, i only wanted to see Athens..that was it. But i dont see the point going to Greece if its expensive/time consuming to get there, like if a train or plane ticket from England lets say, is very pricey to get to Greece.

I do want to go to France/Paris. If we went to Europe, France, Iceland, Italy, and Germany would all be musts.

Thanks for the advice guys. A friend of my partner went on a tour to a few places.. which wernt very party party. I was just going to go to the other places as people have said its cheap.. but now it seems not (unless they meant Contiki?? which is something i wouldnt ever do).

I may take up your advice and draw a basic map outline.. and see how i go 😊

Thanks! 😊 Reply to this

Hey hey,

Accomadation - Well if you wish to keep it cheap hotels are going to add up very very quickly.. Europe can be very very cheap if you are on a budget and is you wish I can let you know many tips on how to save. The biggest expence is going to be accomadation of course but if you use the magic of 'couchsurfing' it will take it to pretty much nothing. We have travelled around Europe for over a year and spend hardly anything on accomadation. We have spent over a year sleeping a peoples places which is for free but of course help for the meals etc.. It is the only way we travel, instead of staying in a hostel with other travellers we are in a locals house, flat or tent. It is a two way thing as we receive couchsurfers all the time so when we are not travelling we are bringing travel to us 😊 But of course this is not for everyone and if interested check it out.

Getting around - Depending on how much time you have you can fly around europe for cheap as.. Ryanair is a great budget option but at times a pain in the behind with service. If a short time here flying could save you much time on getting place to place if you are going long distances. We have never had a Euro pass for trains and never will.. Oh and by the way we use couchsurfing to often travel from city to city.. They have forums like here where people say if anyone would like to go between a and b and offering x amount of places but dont rely on this of course.. For Iceland, it is our fav country in europe and we had a ball visiting that country.. Two weeks if you can and hire a car!!!! A tip... hire a car from a local if you can as you will get up to half price easy rather than a rental..

We got really cheap tickets to Iceland with iceland air and both one way tickets. From Stockholm to Iceland to London.. To find cheap tickets we used skyscanner this time as it allows us to find one way tickets so no need to return to the same port.. (Ryanair dont fly to Iceland) Train from France to Germany and a hint.. The cheapest tickets on the German railways are 90 days before travel.. This means some organizing but german rails can get $$ if last minutes..

Cheap countries - Well we are living in Lithuania at the moment and it very very cheap.. The beer price (a good guide) shop - 500ml local .80 US pub - 500ml local $2US.. We just spent Christmas in Sweden and beer is something like $8US a pop in the pub 😞 Norway and Finland are worse... But over all eastern Europe is cheap and as you head West the more expensive it gets.. Or north with Sweden, Finland and mainly Norway. And by the way Iceland is on par with Sweden we think, remember is is really cheap now to travel in Iceland compared to two years ago after the financial crisis (check currency conversion over the past few years). Romania and the surrounding countries are cheap also but it has been a couple of years since visiting Greece, Croatia but I think they could be becoming more touristy so many be more expensive now.

Favourite places - For me my favourite place for scenery in Gimmelwald in Switzerland.. A town on a cliff face in the Swiss Alps with only one hostel so book in advance if going. Dubrovnik in Croatia seems to be on everyones to see list but it is magical. West coast of Norway is amazing with the cliff faces.. And just all over Iceland 😊 Try and head of the beaten track as when looking back our favourite places seems to be the ones with less people.

Favourite places for people - Ireland 😊 Something about the people in that country.. Get outside Dublin and you will see.. The Netherlands are tall and wonderful people also 😊

Well this is some basic info for you guys.. it is a lot of stab in the dark but hope it helps out.. Reply to this

Hey, you should also totally consider putting Spain on your list, particularly the city of Madrid. In my opinion, Madrid rocks! I've visited it once, with my friends and had the time of my life. Oh, you can find tons of info about the city here <snip> - You can choose where to stay, where to eat, what to visit and all that stuff. If you do decide to include Madrid on your list, please let us know how it went. I'm sure you will not regret it.
