13 years ago, October 6th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #120473
Hi All

My boyfriend and I have been in Oz for about 4 weeks, Ive got myself an office job and he has done the test and got his white card but is finding it impossible to find any general labouring work!

This is kind of a last resort asking you lovely people on here! If any of you know any numbers to call etc it would be great.

Thank you

Not sure if you have already tried job sites such as Seek and CareerOne - they have plenty of opportunities advertised. Reply to this

If he is prepared to go fruit picking, this site might be useful: fruitpicking.org Reply to this

Hi,

Is your boyfriend still looking for labouring work?? If so and you are living in Brisbane try Airport Link, it's a huge infrastructure project and are always looking for workers, no guarantees but check out the website www.brisconnections.com.au. Go to the bottom right corner on the homepage and click on the 'go' link under 'register your interest now'.

If he has no luck with Airport Link, Legeacy Way (formerly Northern Link) is also another, upcoming, large infrastructure project, I can only assume they would be looking for workers- http://www.northernlinkeis.com.au.

Finally watpac is a recruitment agency specialising in labouring type work he could always give them a try- http://watpaccareers.com.au

All the best.

Unfortunatly fruit Picking is alot of work for little reward but with Australias mining boom Drilling companies are always looking for offsiders. This is hard dirty work but so is fruit picking and as a drillers offsider you can earn up to $400 per day, the average being around $300,plus ALL expenses while at work, the only thing you pay for is your beer n cigs. It means working away but the rosters are good ,most common is 2-1 (2 weeks work-1week at home).
I have been in the industry fo 25odd years and it is a great way to earn some $ quick so you can travel.
If interested PM me and I'll give you a couple of ph. no.s to help him get started.
