Hi Guys,
I\'ve been on here just under a year but will be heading down under next week for 5 months staying in New Zealand.
We have booked into a hotel in Auckland for 3 nights to start with just to recover from the flight, but we have been looking for a hostel and can\'t seem to find a really good one which everyone agrees is a good one. There are i\'ve been told lots of poor hostels, and obviously we\'re keen to avoid them

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Hi David,

I haven't stayed in them (live in Auckland), but these seem to be popular;

Bamber House

Oaklands Lodge

YHA Auckland International

The first 2 are both walking distance into the centre of the city, and are on bus routes. The third is right in the centre. Reply to this

Yes, but they'd cost more than a hostel no doubt.

One place I heard of last night when I was at a CouchSurfing event was Ponsonby Backpackers - the girl who was staying there was highly impressed by it.

Hey Nomads Auckland is a good hostel if you are looking to recover in a nice comfy room. There private rooms are just like hotel rooms but cheaper. Reply to this

I stayed in Base in Auckland, it's definitely for youngsters but got good facilities and a good place to hook up with fellow travellers. I have been using YHA's a lot and they are all a pretty good standard. Reply to this

I wouldn't stay anywhere else other than Freemans Lodge. Very centrally located and the Lady running it will make you feel so at home you wont want to leave. One of the best places I stayed in over 9 months of travel. Free wi-fi too which is unusual in New Zealand. Reply to this
