Looking for live-aboard recommendations out of Cairns or Airlie Beach
14 years ago, August 20th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #83737
Hello Fellow Travelers:
I am looking for some help making a decision whether to do a live-aboard out of Cairns vs Airlie Beach (or shoot me another recommendation if you have one!). I am aiming to spend around $500 for the live-aboard and mostly want to be where the best diving is and a reputable dive shop/live-aboard operation.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

hope its not too late to reply

I have done some research about liveaboard trips in GBF, and found that the best live-aborad would be either ' Mikaball' or ' Taka Dive' who goes Northern GBF and/ or coral sea. the BEST diving sites are out there! but both operators charge very high for that ( looking at $ 1000 +).

for your budget, i think you should join the liveaboard in Southern GBF for a better ROI. the reefs in there is less visited and thus remind pristine. if you look at some reviews, you will found that Fitzroy reef is actually a scuba paradise but less known....so i think you should opt for the southern GBF.

Town 1770 and Bundaberg is the closest access point. Good luck Reply to this
