Doha Transit

First long lay-over. Please help.

Hello all,

Sorry to bombard you with yet another transit question but whenever I've had a change of flight before I haven't had long enough to go out into the place, so I'm very excited about Doha.

I have two stop-overs in Doha. The first is on a Tuesday evening. Arriving at 16:50, leaving at 01:35. Would it be nice to see the Corniche at this time of day? And what time does the market open until?

As I've never exited an airport in transit before I'm not even sure how long I need to be back at the airport before take-off. Is their a transit section I go to on my return to the airport?

On my return home I arrive at Doha at 07:15 and leave at 16:35. Any suggestions of what to do here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all your help

Hello Ant and Allee 😊

I dont have the answers to your questions, but I am curious about Doha too in case I have a long stop over there in future.

Is some kind of visa needed for leaving the airport?

Yes, a transit visa is available at the airport. I think it's $30 Reply to this

Is there a bus one can take into the city or is a taxi necessary? An expensive day out, but Doha seems like such an exotic place, so probably worth it. Reply to this

If you exit the airport, you will need to be back two hours before take off. If you have luggage, you might be able to at least do a early check in, that means checking in your luggage in the morning so you don't have to walk around with it the whole day or put it in storage somewhere... Do you have a blog about a stop over in Doha Ralf? If so, would you mind posting a direct link to it here. Reply to this

Visa are available upon arrival for citizens of 33 countries (cost 100 QR), noticed that they need to have a copy of your passport too, so you might need to bring one with you.
More info on State of Qatar Ministry of Interior

Spent a few hours there about two weeks ago but in the middle of the night so decided to stick to the airport...got free wireless access everywhere and 24 hours food court so not too bad. Reply to this

For all who are interested......We got a transit bisa for 100 QR and walked out of the airport. Taxis are out front and are very cheap. The drivers speak English and can drop you somewhere or take you on a tour around. We drove around for a couple of hours which came to around $25US. On the way home we're gonna have a look around on foot. Reply to this
