Happy New Year to the Chinese members of TravelBlog and to those who are living and travelling in China.

How will you celebrate the start of the new year? Do you have special traditions? Will you join in with any of the special traditions of others? Reply to this

KungHEi FatChoy!!

That is Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! We are in Hong Kong and planning to see the night parade this evening with floats and traiditional Chinese dragons. And ofcourse the fireworks display tomorrow. Hong Kong has been welcoming lots of people over the last couple of days and traditionally the temperature drops for this week - it has disappointed us & it's a chilly 15 degrees outside!

Most people here spend time with friends & family, eating food and catching up. It is traditionally "Lai See season" - that is the season when people give envelopes filled with cash to their friends and family. It is known as "Lucky Money" Only certain people get given the envelopes, none have been deposited through out letterbox.....yet!!!!! 😊

so,when Chinese say "Happy new year!" to you, maybe he means" Happy OX year!"

and ever1 have got 7-day vacation during OX's comming, we call it "Spring Festerval";

Smart ancient Chinese left the best Calendar according to the Astronomy, and Spring is always coming with our new year!

And also, thousands of people will come chian for the prodigies of Astronomy----Total Solar Eclipse; We are busy preparing for service of it on July this year!

Hi All,

Gong Xi Fa Cai from Malaysia!

I have some photos taken during my recent celebration with family and friends. Plenty of red colours, dragon/lion dances and most of all, fireworks. I'll be uploading by next week once I get the digi cam (which I forgot back in hometown) back.

Happy Ox year to all.
