Hi,

I go to Europe in autumn 2009 and I'm suppose to visit Amsterdam, Brussel, Prague, Austria, Switzerland and Milan. So i'm not particuly interest by Germany but I want to know what is the city that I cannot pass throught without a stop. I dont wanna lose many time beetween two city but if I could spend 2 or 3 days in Germany that's great. Autumn = Octoberfest in Germany right?? I'm suppose to travel by train with a old friend, we have 23 and 25 yr. We wanna see thing we cannot see here in Quebec, Canada, like history things, castle, bone-church, world war artifact and great horizon view. My first idea is to visit Munich but I ask for all your suggestion.

Thx a lot for your answer!! Reply to this

Hello Alexis 😊

Yes, Autumn is the Oktoberfest. In my opinion it is not the best time to come to Munich because the accomodation is all booked up a half year before and is more expensive than it usually is. Also the Oktoberfest is all a bit too much of a tourist thing anyway. I think the Oktoberfest used to be a cosy end of harvest celebration but not anymore.

Bad moment for coming in Munich if you don't like Octoberfest. However, you surely have chances to book something there. Maybe you would like to try booking now for the 2009 autumn.

octoberfest is in september.

One city with great historical museums and sites is berlin, after that I would suggest frankfurt (main). Munich is boring and very snobby, but pretty.

I'd definitely say that you should go to berlin! Gave a tour to some of my friends who were visiting me and we saw the most important things in 1 1/2 days (excluding museums) Reply to this

Some of it is in October. It starts in the middle of September and continues for a week or two in October.

Is the octoberfest was a big party in all the Germany or it is specific for a couple of town?
I think Frankfurt was a good option, cauz good geological position between belgium and Czech Rep. So, what the city offer for a tourist like me, nice people? nice pub? nice town? nice view? Obviously, it is really important that the city was easy to access by train...I think Germany have a good train system. Please answer me!

Thx all!

It is just in Munich. There are occasionally a few copy cat ones in other cities.

Yes, the train system in Germany is reliable, efficient and fairly extensive. Reply to this

the original octoberfest is in munich (appr 10 days), but there are other festivals which are alike all over bavaria. big tradition there. You will have copy-cat festivals in cities like berlin.

frankfurt ist a beautiful city, loads of historical sites, great museums, amazing pubs and bars, good nightlife (clubs), you have a river going through the centre of it and a beautiful promenade along it. Also, you have great food and a kind of drink which is very specific to the region (it's called Apfelwein > pronounced Ebbelwoi and there are copycat drinks like viez in saarland and cidre in france :PP). You have these special restaurants where you sit at big tables.. you can have a banker sitting next to a farmer and so on. Everyone gets along
Frankfurt is also great for sports. Good basketball team, good ice hockey team, good football team and had the best european american football team.

hope I could help Reply to this
