Overstaying a Schengen visa

Have you overstayed a Schengen Visa or know anyone who has? If so, were there consequences?

I am currently in the Netherlands on a 90 day tourist visa. My Visa ends on April 30th. I want to stay in Europe for 15 more days over my visa. I want to know what will happen to me when I try to leave Amsterdam (Schipol Airport) to return to the United States. Will I be fined, if so how much? Will I be banned, if so for how long, will I be banned forever? I love Europe and would like to be able to return some day in the furture. I understand there are consequences and I could leave on time to miss these penalties, but I want to stay and enjoy my first Queens day and than travel to Italy to stay with a friend while she is on a school break. If anyone has any advice or updated information on what happens when you overstay a visa for 2 weeks in the Netherlands I'd greatly appreciate the information. Reply to this

I hope that overstaying for short time wont be a problem.
I have bought the tickets to go visit for a weekend (friday to sunday) in prague and I thought that my visa expires on sunday but actually it does expire on saturday.
You think I will have problems?

Where are you visiting Prague from? Is it the kind of visa where there is an actual expiry date given, or is it a 90-day tourist visa where you're left to do the math and figure out when it ends? If it's the latter, I can almost guarantee you it won't be a problem.

It is a 6 months visa, multi entry, with total allowed stay of 30 days during the six months.
???
My belief is that if they allow me to enter then going out with one day over stay wont be any problem since I am a tourist.

So you've already bought the ticket? So I would say just go and see what happens. Obviously, they're not going to stop you from leaving. If anything, having no entry stamp is better than having an old (and obviously expired one). I would be extremely surprised if you have any problems. Most of those customs people don't want to do extra work. They'll just stamp it and send you on your way. Reply to this

Hello Travelblog,

Ok, so here's the story: I'm American. I overstayed my schengen visa in Germany for about a year and a half now (been here since May, 2010. Anyone know what I should do, I really don't want to leave but if that's the only way I guess I'll have to, I have family here (5 uncles and 6 aunts). I'm 20 years old. I really don't know what to do now, can anyone give me some input on my situation?

Good Day! This is Dr. Gonzalez from the Philippines and my parents are touring Spain and Portugal this week, they hired a tour agency to arrange everything for their group and somehow my mom's visa is only until Nov 20 while everyone else's is until Dec 20. Their flight was supposed to be from Nov 8 to 23 and so she had to buy a another return ticket on the 20th just so they would allow her to leave! Her return trip is on the 23rd, which means she will be overstaying her visa for three days. Will this pose as a problem at the airport or the immigration? The agency cannot do it from here in Manila and have asked her to approach the polizia or any police station for help but they have been unsuccessful so far.
The passport was stamped Nov 8, 2011. It said "Good for 30days". The Expiry: 201111 (Nov20, 2011). This is clearly a human typographical error. My mom is anxious and cannot enjoy her tour. Help!!

In URGENT need of consultation from all you seasoned travelers. After studying in Sweden for 2 years I applied for a work permit which was denied and as a consequence I have overstayed my Swedish student visa.

With the holidays approaching I am leaving Sweden from CPH and flying through the UK changing from Heathrow to Gatwick airports and departing for the Caribbean. My case for a residence permit is in court and the State has even appointed me a lawyer!!!! I am a US passport holder FYI.

Do you think I will be stopped while changing airports in the UK? On the way back I am traveling through Manchester to CPH. Do any Americans have an negative experience traveling through Copenhagen on an expired Swedish or other Schengen visa?

I paid 2000 euro for the trip and my Swedish boyfriend will meet some of my family for the first time during this time so it means the world that I go for this holiday. Would you travel if you were in my situation? I have a job here in Sweden so I also need to REENTER in January.

Will they give me problems on any of these legs and the biggest question of all are the Danish authorities going to give me trouble on my way back. PLEASE ALL YOUR ADVICE IS PRICELESS TO ME SO PLEASE RESPOND! Reply to this

Hi guys,

I am currently in Belgium on a touristic visa which expires in couple of days. I have been told by people working in my embassy that after 3 months spent in one country I have to leave and I cant go back during the following 3 months. But I want to return to Belgium and stay another 2 months since I am doing an internship here. I was wondering didn’t any of u tried to came back again in the same country? Since I am Croatian I was thinking of entering Slovenia or Hungary, getting a stamp from them and then going to brussels.
Every suggestion is welcome

Hi everyone,

I have an urgent question if anybody can help!

I am a US citizen currently visiting my boyfriend in Barcelona and I want to extend my ticket so I can stay longer , but NOT over staying the 90 days (just 88 😉)

The problem is I have a family vacation planned and I am returning to Europe via Amsterdam on June 2nd -- only 70 days in between. I have read that you have to wait at least 90 days to re enter, so the question/s are:
Should I risk it? Are they very strict on this? Has anybody had a similar experience?
Thank you so much for your help!! Reply to this
